The right to die movement: using Terri Schiavo

By: Cao, Filed under: General , euthanasia, eugenics @ 5:23 am

A few blogs in the blogosphere are linking to me claiming that I’ve made Terri Schiavo a “political football”. You’ll excuse me if I don’t link back to these idiots–all I can think of is they’re starving for hits. Running away to a corner and complaining about what I’m saying is either a pathetic attempt for attention from the 2 readers they have or…just an act of simple cowardice. To imagine that I am capable of creating a “political football” out of this is by itself an extraordinary example of stupidity. A strange backhanded compliment, of sorts, to imagine that little lonely me all by myself could single-handedly start a firestorm of controversy is also somewhat ridiculous. But of one thing I’m certain: They are coming here and reading. They’re not commenting, but they are reading.

It is interesting, at any rate, that these people are 1) not courageous enough to face me and 2) not intelligent enough to realize this is a national debate.

You mean euthanasia isn’t a concern to anyone and everyone who has loved ones? Has it occurred to anyone that you yourself might get sick at some point and need some TLC? Who knows what could happen to you at some point in your life? My Uncle, who is a minister, says–true love is when you carry your loved one to the bathroom when they’re sick and care for them. At least that’s the concept I’m familiar with. Life isn’t always a bed of roses, it’s “for better or worse”. You don’t just toss someone’s life away as though it has no meaning. Whatever happened to the idea of sanctity of life? If someone’s going to leave you, you should get on with your life, not try to strangle them to death.

In nazi Germany, the Third Reich practiced euthanasia on mental patients. By the end of 1939, four men, in the presence of a group of physicians and a chemist, were deliberately killed with carbon monoxide. They were not even criminals or troublemakers. They were cooperative and confident. They were ordinary patients in a Public psychiatric hospital, responsible for their welfare. This “successful” experience led to the installation of gas chambers in many psychiatric hospitals (Grafeneck, Brandenburg, Hartheim, Sonnenstein, Hadamar, Bernburg). An important number of hospitals and psychiatric institutions, professors of psychiatry, hospitals’ directors and staff were involved in this. Mass elimination became a routine job. They created a specialized transport agency, built ovens in psychiatric hospitals, etc. Those psychiatrists followed on a voluntary basis, the same principle as the one of the famous concentration camp commander Koch: “In my camp there are no ill people. There are the healthy ones and the dead”. However, this operation was hidden under different names : “help to dying patients”, “liberation through death”, “destruction of worthless lives”, “euthanasia”, “charitable action”.

Do those words sound familiar to you? They should. They’re the exact words they’re using in the case of Terri Schiavo.

We have evolved into a disgusting narcissistic society and people are selfish enough not to want to be inconvenienced by a sick loved one. We are already shipping off our elderly into nursing homes rather than keeping them with our families, how much of this is absolutely necessary? There comes a time when you just can’t handle the care of an elderly relative anymore…I’ve known alzheimers cases where the alzheimer’s patient kept slipping outside. A few have been hit by cars. A recent story had one freeze to death in the cold.

If you recall the case of Karen Ann Quinlan in the ’70’s, she was in a coma. She was curled into the fetal position and was on life support. Her parents were drained from the experience and went to court to take her off of life support. She lived 10 more years after that, she was breathing on her own.

But such is not the case with Terri Schiavo. Terri managed to survive her husband’s deadly assault and has a family who still loves her. Even though her husband has now taken his crusade to extinguish her life to the courts. I can’t believe it has gone this far! But then…I don’t know how many cases there are where this has been done before. Raven tells me this goes on a lot.

That is the most supreme idiocy. Activist judges create their own problems, as is the case with Judge Greer. Judge Greer could have chosen to follow the law in this instance, the fact that he choses not to has created a blogalanche of interest from coast to coast.

So, if you want to complain about me making this a matter of interest, please see the following bloggers who are doing the same thing and get out of my face….or take it up with Judge Greer, George Felos and Michael Schiavo.

These are the blogs so far in the blogroll to save Terri (and the roll keeps growing!!!):

    Absolutely fan-damn-tastic post!

The sad fact is that we’re starting to treat people like dumb animals… Like shooting horses when they’re in pain or putting down dogs when they have an incurable illness.

Death is part of the human condition. Pain and sorrow associated with death and how we and our families deal with that is what seperates us from the rest of the dumb brutes on this planet.

I have always mistrusted people who play God whatever side of the political spectrum that they inhabit !

239 blogs by my count….and when horses are broken beyond repair they dont’ shoot them, (although I do know how to find the spot should that tragic need arise) they literally put them to sleep with a large dose of barbituates.

In fact, if I were to try to starve one of my horses to death, (I would kill to protect my hroses so starving will never be an issue for anyone that may think I am saying I would), as I was saying, if I tried to starve my horse I would lose my horses and Go To Jail!!!

With a (well deserved) felony no less.

    Great post Cao.

Excellent post! I’d like to also be clear that Terri Schiavo’s situation is NOT, repeat NOT, in the catagory of Oregon’s “Death with Dignity” law. Terri does not have a terminal illness, nor is there anything in writing between Terri and her physician, nor is she on any form of life support. Terri is like a prisoner, so if it becomes legal to remove her food then I guess all those thousands of death row inmates can have their food supply stopped as well. Heck, let’s include all rapists and violent criminals as well.

Let Terri eat - how stupid is this going to get?

Stay true to yourself Cao—that is what keeps everyone coming back…again and again and again
