Courthouse shooting in Atlanta
I just saw this as I was walking by the breakroom…I know there are no details yet…please post your comments and I’ll update as the day goes on.
Apparently a judge has been shot? Don’t know. I know at least one person is dead.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution something similar to this happened at the end of February.
CNN Reports Judge Has Died
Authorities are looking for a suspect in the shooting of a Fulton County, Atl., deputy and a judge.
The shootings happened just after 9 a.m. today inside the Fulton County Courthouse in downtown Atlanta.
The names of the two shot and their conditions are not immediately known. CNN reported that the judge has died.
What is going on here? First the Lefkow murders and that big manhunt…(and I can’t help noticing how they’re trying to nail some kind of politics on that…first it was rightwing extremism, now they’re blaming it on the high cost of health care so they’re rushing in to talk about national health care–)…and now another judge is being sought after?
It’s Judge Rowland Barnes and his court reporter who were killed. Somebody grabbed the gun from the bailiff and shot them…and there are more injured, from my understanding of it.
A search is underway for the suspect, who has been identified as Brian Nichols. Nichols was being tried for rape when he grabbed a deputy’s weapon and opened fire. He later carjacked several vehicles, one of which belonged to Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Don Bryant, who was pistol whipped. The latest vehicle Nichols fled in is a green Honda Accord that he may be using to head toward Alabama.
The suspect was in court at the Fulton County courthouse Friday morning. The suspect wrestled a gun away from a deputy and shot one person in court, according to police. A second person was shot outside the courthouse on Pryor Street.
I gather the judge was shot and killed in his own courtroom.
Brian Nichols, 33, was on trial today in Barnes’ courtroom on six charges including rape, aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment, aggravated assault with intent to rape, burglary and drug possession, according to the Fulton County sheriff’s office. He was booked into the county jail on Aug. 24.

What I wonder about is why he is referred to as a “suspect” and not a murderer - in spite of the fact so many people saw him kill these people.
I think under those situations where it is beyond any doubt the police should bring him in dead, not alive. He’d never hurt anyone again, and think of the $$$ saved!

I would say the man IS a murderer for certain!
