The Bible is distracting the prejudiced bigots
From Three Bad Fingers:
Robert Harlan raped and murdered Rhonda Maloney, a cocktail waitress, near Denver. He additionally shot Jaquie Creazzo, paralyzing her, as she attempted to rescue Rhonda. Robert’s own father provided damning evidence that eventually contributed to his son’s conviction. After this conviction, they recommended the death penalty. The Supreme Court of Colorado just determined that this recommendation was prejudiced, and thus imposed a sentence of life imprisonment without parole. Why? Because at least one juror wanted to make sure their vote was consistent with their faith.
So the Bible is not something you should rely on in public, just as John Kerry believes…it’s ok to be a Christian, just so long as you don’t ACT like one.
What Bible references could be so prejudicial that Christians would be forbid from bringing their Bible to jury duty? (Watch out John Grisham, you’re next.)

While I actually agree with you that the decision was stupid, the real problem stems from an inherant contradiction in the Colorado law. The law asks the people directly to search their own morals on death penalty cases, and yet forbids anyone from using a higher authority than the law. If the person had searched his or her beliefs sans bible (even going over all of those items in their head) it would have been fine. The problem came from intorducing the bible as a reference. At that point, it could be argued that it isn’t the individuals morals that are being searched, but outside forces (you know - the person had to go look it up, it wasn’t an ingrained belief therefore they resorted to a higher authority). It might have been the same if it were a book from Plato, Scientology, or People Magazine.,
Like I said, I think it was a dumb ruling, but how would you have felt if I picked up a book on Secular Humanism to decide your fate?

It only proved how stupid Judges are about morals, as they have none. It was just some way for some ACLU idiot to again undermine our moral values. First the stupidty at the University of Colorado, now the stupidty of the Colorado Supreme Court, I am look for a place way out in the middle of no where in the state of Wyoming so I can get the hell out of the heathern state.

You should try reading the Bible before criticizing someone like Kerry. There is a great deal more in the bible than your beloved Capital Punishment. Indeed, Jesus seems to have come down squarely against Capital Punishment in pretty much no uncertain terms.

I wouldn’t expect you to know this, but when someone reads the Bible, they can get the wrong impression if they’re not doing it with the guidance of the holy spirit.
That’s the reason there are bible studies, that’s the reason people still translate from the original hebrew to English. It’s very specific, for a reason. You can’t just pluck out one verse and point at it and say that’s the spirit of the Bible. You have to look at what was being discussed, if it was a story, who were the players, and so on.
Capital punishment was instituted because this country’s laws were founded on the Mosaic law. I’m sorry, but it’s just a fact. The fact that you want to twist things around for your own sick agenda, is too bad. But it doesn’t change what it says. The Bible doesn’t change its mind the way John Kerry does…it has said the same thing for a very long time.
Liars are liars and nothing you can say will change it. Kerry has a lot to explain, but then–he never explains, he just changes his mind when it’s politically expedient. The fact that you want to stand up for a guy like John Kerry tells me a lot about you. And be careful, I’m not feeling very friendly towards members of the DU right about now. My finger is itchy to ban some more IP addresses.
John Kerry’s attitude toward abortion and his voting record tells me what kind of catholic he REALLY is…but then he was born a Jew, his family changed their name to an Irish one by dropping a pencil on a map of Ireland. He’s no more an Irishman than I’m St. Mary. So I guess that lying thing goes a long way back in his family’s history.
George Soros is a Jew, too. It makes things really interesting when you look at who they’re backing in the middle east, doesn’t it?
