Luther Van Dross Passed

This is so sad. He was only 54 years old. I was looking forward to a comeback from this wonderful guy.
Vandross died at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, N.J., said hospital spokesman Rob Cavanaugh. He did not release the cause of death but said in a statement that Vandross “never really recovered from” a stroke two years ago.
I always liked his music, particularly “I believe in the power of love”.
I remember seeing clips of him at the Apollo Theatre early on in his career. Man, that audience could be rough.

We will all miss Luther; however, was there enough media coverage about him? Hmmmmm. He was a giant among vocalists!
Was enough said? Was enough said about Ray Charles? It just seems as if his name was mentioned “in passing” . hmmmmm

I know it’s really weird and…I missed Ray Charles’ passing. He was a GIANT. But then there was also the incredible dancer and actor Gregory Hines. I found out about his death long after he passed. HE was FANTASTIC! I thought he was younger than Van Dross, but he was a smidge older-57-and died from liver cancer (which I didn’t know).

Luther will be greatly missed. He had an unforgettable, romantic, beautiful, voice. –one of my very top favorites. There was precious little said of him during his time convelescing after the first stroke or even at his death. Perhaps his family wanted him out of the limelight with some privacy, I don’t know. I certainly hope someone picks up on his life and that he gets some of the attention and tributes that were afforded to other greats; he brought joy to me and I’m sure to many others with his velvet voice. God bless the family and those who loved him who are left behind.

I was deeply saddened at learning the passing of Luther Vandross and sad for his mother who now has buried all of her children. I will NEVER forget Luther and the mark that he left in our hearts and minds. May he rest in eternal peace.

What the hell…? I just found out tonight that my man is gone. When I was in driver’s Ed, (11 years ago,) I made a lot of smooth turns. My driving instructor said, “Nice smooth turn.” I replied with, “Yeah, like Luther Van Dross…” I can’t believe that the only other man that I ever wanted to sound like when I sang died almost 6 months ago. Damn, where can I go as a young white boy with a mentor whom has been dead for a while go? I promise you–I don’t ever care what he did in his personal life, but he was always my, (and my ole’ buddy’s,) voice. My wife thinks that I’m making a huge deal out of this, but damn–why the hell shouldn’t I??? Luther, you will always be as smooth as a left hand turn onto a 4-lane highway for me. I’ll definately miss you, brother.
Here and now…I never eally liked that song, except for in “Happy Gilmore.” Other than that, we’ll miss you…
