Spain, Britain, and Terrorism
Food for thought:
Spain killed those fifty Brits, from the way they voted. It’s Spain’s shame.
–John Gibson, filling in on The Tony Snow, Fox News Radio, 22 July 2005.
Gibson’s comment was in reference to the recent London bombings on 7 July 2005 and the voters in Spain, following al Qaeda’s bombing of commuter trains in Madrid on 11 March 2004, choosing to reject their current government in national elections. Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar’s pro-American party was defeated, and soon thereafter the new ruling Spanish government pulled its troops out of the international coalition forces in Iraq.

Not so sure I agree with Gibson, I think he is playing the blame game on this. There are so many folks that we could blame, going all the way back to Jimmy Carter. Even had we never gone into Iraq, something would have happened sooner or later, and it would have been blamed on Afghanistan, or Israel, or etc.
Plus, I admit, I do not like Gibson that much after a whine-fest about him flying and the security folks.

Will, in principle I agree with you. That said, Gibson has a very good point IMO regarding what the Islamofascists are doing and where they can succeed if allowed to. We know that their MO is now to try to break up the coalition, pick off US allies. It worked smashingly well with Spain.
I agree that you can’t blame the Spanish for the British deaths REALLY, but that cowardly political retreat by Spain had to have emboldened al Qaeda, not unlike Clinton’s non-efforts in Somalia. Positive feedback of the worst kind.
And, while Gibson can be flip, he had one of the most succinct and insightful messages on Gitmo that I’ve ever read.

William, I agree that Gibson’s haughty whining about how the TSA could possibly delay HIM from boarding really showed his true colors.
Most of the time (including this time), I think he says what he says to just as a means to stand out from Hannity and O’Reilly. I.e., it’s all about ratings.

the Spaniards do bare some of the responsibility indirectly by their unwise and cowardly reaction to what h,appened last year in their country.Frankly, I think they got what they deserved, you are a fool if you elect a known one. But,William, you are right that there is enough blame to go around.

Gibson is way out of line with this statement, and the common interventionists’ assertion about Spain is wrong as well… Something that I should have blogged about by now - and will hopefully be doing soon.

Hey *******, how is that idiotic comment relevant to this post? The leftists want to give reparations to the descendants of slaves, for crying out loud. Clinton gave medals of honor to 22 asians based solely on the basis of race–for WWII. I suppose it’s only people who refer to patriotism and the founding documents that are the ones who aren’t suppose to refer to history in your mind, right?

Stockwell Shooting (What a difference a day makes)
Well done ITN News. Now that really has put the cat among the pigeons. Notice how BBC was ignoring this sensational story until you shamed them into covering it. Can there be any doubt that BBC News is the propaganda department of the government?
Do you think all the bad news has been disclosed? I tend to think Stockwell was a distraction for the 7 July bombings; the official version of which was coming unravelled. A secondary motive was intimidation to reassert control, “Kill one, terrify 10,000.” Think the unthinkable: How can you be loyal to the government of a country that will murder its own citizens to gain political advantage. The US lost the Vietnam War on the home front. The London bombings were intended to bolster wavering UK support for the Iraq war. Taking your country to war on lies and deception: The first person to be tried for treason should be Tony Blair.
