the elitist press and barring “warlords” from participating in Afghanistan politics
If you’re looking for pieces on Jack Idema and his team, please click on this link.
Here we have an incredible story of courage, bravery and betrayal…the story of Jonathan Keith Idema. The courage and bravery he’s demonstrated over the past 30 years is clearly demonstrated in all that he’s personally sacrificed for his country.
I just read an incredible piece that he wrote–called “Lords of War -A Different Perspective” about how the Northern Alliance dominates the Afghan Parliament, and about how the media has consistently been wrong. He compares the men he’s been fighting alongside and living with over the past 10 years or more, to the founding fathers and provides examples of the reasons why.
The elitist media has been complaining and wailing about how members of the Northern Alliance, who have been fighting against the Soviets, Al Qaeda and the Taliban for over 20 years, are uneducated warriors in the field of battle who do not qualify to turn around and enter politics. To the media, they are “warlords”.
To the American government (amazingly) and the United Nations, they’re unacceptable representatives of their people in terms of entering politics. Karzai and the UN tried to bar more than 40 Northern Alliance “warlords” from the elections due to their supposed affiliations with armed groups. Can you imagine what would have happened had our founding fathers been banned from running for Congressional seats in 1780?
After the battles in the field have subsided (although they aren’t over), many of these men have put down their swords and entered into politics, running in the elections in Afghanistan, according to the wishes of their late Commander Massoud.
Idema talks about the reasons why we must not only keep an eye on Afghanistan, but we must understand what has been taking place there; that the Americans are now supporting a government which is controlled by Karzai, a taliban supporter–and they are actually manipulating public opinion by attempting to control the flow of information to the people, as is the case with the attempt to shut down Voice of the Mujahadeen that I mentioned here.
What’s mind boggling to me is–Commander Massoud’s vision for Afghanistan is in the process of becoming a reality, yet the Americans seem to have changed sides and are now supporting the Taliban which they had gone in to help the Ministry of Defence (Northern Alliance) fight against. What also mind boggling to me is the short attention span and, in fact, memory of the press in terms of villifying honorable men who sacrificed blood and treasure for their country and the vision of freedom from totalitarianism–who are, much like our founding fathers were.
These men were gentlemen, but they also served in the battlefield. George Washington was a General in the Continental Army, for crying out loud. There are many warriors-turned-politicians in our country’s history, although nowadays it seems as though the press is determined to paint them as toothless hicks without a higher education.
When you consider the taliban and all that it’s done against the Afghani people and the fact that they’re being allowed to run in the elections in itself is a mind boggling chain of events.
Can you imagine the Germans allowing the nazis to run in elections?
Jack’s piece is excellent, particularly the part about the founding fathers. I would say in a word; brilliant. Probably more to come on this…so much of this is written on the “fly” I can’t tell ya.

So true indeed, once again the US State Department turns victory on the battlefield into defeat during the “peace.”
There is NO Special Forces soldier that fought with the Northern Alliance in 2001 and 2002 that would disagree with ANY of this.
You are wonderful.

I don’t see the point in having people held in jail without pending charges. It is freaking stupid. To me it is like be held against your will kinda thing going on.

That’s why there is absolutely no question in my mind; they should be released.
