making peace with terrorists

Zalmay Khalizad, Ambassador to Iraq, former Ambassador to Afghanistan US DOS

Here is an interesting theory. Some readers have asked some important questions about how on earth the Americans could treat men who were fighting for our freedom in the manner in which Idema and his men have been treated. Although I surmise most Americans are completely unaware of it–Here’s an interesting answer to those questions and could possibly serve as an explanation–as repulsive as it is.

By all appearances and indications, the US State Department and US Department of Justice wanted a free reign in Afghanistan and wanted to bolster Karzai’s power outside of Kabul. This could explain, in part, when he won the presidential election and there were widespread complaints of voter fraud, that nothing was done about that. You see, it would seem that ‘voter fraud’ only applies in the case of the Northern Alliance. Karzai and the American government are now backing the Taliban and the Taliban is slipping back into positions of power. The proof in the pudding is Karzai’s release of taliban terrorists this week and the continued incarceration of Jack Idema and his team after they were declared innocent of all charges and should be set free.

What’s even more interesting, is when the “warlords” won an overwhelming majority in Parliament, Karzai then talked about certifying the elections as though there was something wrong with the Northern Alliance winning all those seats. Well of course there was, in his opinion, he’s the taliban.

But more importantly, and this is confirmed by senior Jamiat Party officials and Vice-President Zia Massoud, was that the State Department sought to implement a “power-sharing agreement” with the Taliban to quell the continued resistance in the south of Afghanistan. The only way to do this was to dismantle the United Front Military Forces that had fought the Taliban and al-Qaeda. It had been made clear to Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad that Massoud’s Northern Alliance would not allow or stand for senior Taliban officials being released and returning to government positions.

So, in essence, as we’ve seen in other countries, the Americans took the road of the dhimmi and decided to appease the Taliban rather than continue to fight them; even after we have spent so much blood and treasure in removing the Taliban from power. What’s more is the horrifying decision to do this in spite of the Northern Alliance fighting against the Taliban for over 20 years and our previous support of those efforts. In essence, the American government has now turned its back on our allies to make a deal with the devil. A complete reversal in policy makes absolutely no sense and means disaster for what we’ve been trying to accomplish in that entire region. For the person with open eyes, you can see a good example of appeasing terrorism and Islam in France right now. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by it, and it’s simply invites more terror and will embolden our enemies.

Jack Idema, and his relationship with the Northern Alliance and the information he was supplying to American intelligence agencies and the Pentagon, stood firmly in the way of the new US policy to abandon our allies and make peace with the terrorists. On three different occasions the US State Department offered Idema and his men freedom if they signed statements against Northern Alliance officials and against Hamid Karzai’s lead political opponent Yunis Qanooni which would allow Jalali to arrest the Northern Alliance leaders. True to character, Idema refused to desert his friends and former comrades in arms, and has paid dearly for it.

So …It is high time, since they’ve been there for over a year, that we put pressure on our government officials to allow these men their freedom. There is absolutely no good reason to leave them in that hornet’s nest full of Taliban and Al Qaeda prisoners who have tried on at least 7 occasions to kill them. They were declared innocent of the charges of “torture”. What they were running, in reality, was a “Safe House” where they were interrogating suspects, and their intelligence was the kind that spooks only dream of. This is Jack’s specialty–this is what he does best, what he’s been doing for the past 27 years. The horrors of what they’ve gone through are difficult to imagine, but we must make sure that it doesn’t continue or they are killed before they’re released.
