Medicine Bear Rick Cantrell

This came through from “Rain”s” cousin. I am trying to verify these facts with backup documentation. Rain is Rick’s former wife, who passed away. Now we not only know the circumstances under which that happened; we know that his negligence and arrogance played a part in it. Interesting how so many of the players who want to see Idema “rot in prison” are frauds like this one.
Rick Cantrell came here claiming Ed Artis is a ‘nice’ guy’. From what I’ve been able to see from court documents and his own testimony, Ed is not what he represents himself to be, either. But what do you expect? Ed Artis and Joe Cafasso share the same attorney and are joined at the hip! Last night I saw IP addresses from the Philippines in my sitemeter records, so it would seem Ed Artis and Rick Cantrell are trying to help Joe Cafasso keep the fraud going.
Rick, did you honestly think I wouldn’t find out about who you really are?
I think it’s too late for that, frankly.
He was married to my cousin Nancy “Rain” Green with who he had two children with. They lived in Weaverville NC where he went by the name Dr. Rick “Medicine Bear” Cantrell. Rick claimed to be native american and of course used this in his practice. Due to his medical beliefs of holistic medicine my cousin Nancy died at age 36, leaving her 16 year old son, and their 1 and 3 year olds to live with Rick. Nancy had pain in her hip and went to a Chiropractor that Rick knew. He took X rays, but missed a huge tumor on her hip.
By the time a real doctor became involved it was to late and she died. Rick was left with this family to take care of, which he did not. The 16 year old took care of the children until he went to college. At that point to keep the oldest of the two younger boys out of school to take care of the youngest on he himself diagnosed him with CP, MR and a brain tumor. The children where being left to fend for themselves, eat what they could find, which was not much. Well finally he go tired of dealing with them he took him to Nancy’s brother and left them. This is not the first family he has abonded. The children have now been leagally adopted by Nancy’s brother and his wife and are doing great. Our family did extensive research on this man. He was not is special forces, but did serve in the army. He claims he was shot in an ambush and recieved a purple heart. Untrue on his discharge papers there is no metion of a purple heart and he has no scars that could even resemble shots recieved in an ambush. Rick is also not a native american. He was adopted and from what we know he is from hispanic decent from Mexico.
Once his children got out of his grasp they have thrived. The youngest has little memories of him, thank goodness. The oldest of the two does not like to even hear his name. The children also revealed that as punishment he would punch them in the stomach, so it would not be visable, leave little markings, and could be blamed on falls. Nancy’s brother went to clean out the home he and the children had lived in after he skipped the country. In it he found filth. The roach problem was so bad they crawled out of the computer. Nancy’s brother did take the computer home. Rick claimed to have no money and had donations coming in for the oldest childs medical conditions, was scamming people on e-bay and had over $250,000 in the bank. This is the money he took with him to start his scam in the Philliappeans. He now has a new family over there. As for the two girls in the picture he claims to be his daughters that is untrue. He has a child around one and possibly one a little older. It will be only a matter of time before he has to move again due to scams and will leave this family.
So we’ve got a group of poser guys; Rick Cantrell among them, and we’ve got a bunch of elitists who aren’t bright enough to recognize what they’re dealing with, as in the case of Joe Cafasso, his new alias Gerry Blackwood, and Columbia University, Vanderbilt, and whomever else he’s managed to bamboozle.

My ex-wife and I were friends of Nancy “Rain” Cantrell and Rick. My ex-wife went to “Medicine Bear” to try some alternative treatment for her condition. About a year after Rain had passed away we had lost contact with Rick, but I did hear from someone that he had abandoned the two youngest children and dropped them off at Rain’s brother’s house. For the last few month’s that I was in contact with him, I wondered if Rick was actually a ******** artist and apparently I was right. I heard a Warren Zevon song on the radio the other day and I remember Rick saying more than once that he served in Vietnam with Warren Zevon and they would play songs together. So when I heard the Warren Zevon song on the radio it made me wonder, so I looked up Warren Zevon’s bio on his website and what do you know. Warren Zevon was never in Viet Nam, he wasn’t even in the military. He wrote a song about Viet Nam, but that was about has close as he got. That made me think of several other things that Rick had said that now I’m sure are lies. He claimed that he went to medical school in Mexico and I don’t have any proof that he did or did not, but I seriously doubt that he did. He played up the Native American act pretty well. It’s funny seeing the picture you have of him all clean cut and shaven. When he was claiming to be a “healer” he had long hair and a beard. I guess he needed to change his looks for his next scam. He also claimed to be a religious man. This really pisses me off since he abandoned his own childern. But I have met Rain’s brother and I know that the kids are in good hands. Rick also claims to be a martial arts master, which I doubt. I remeber one time he sent me a foreward on his e-mail, apparently from some special forces website about how he was on some “special mission” while in Viet Nam and single handedly killed a bunch of Viet Namise, and then was injured so bad that he had to get several units of blood and that they didn’t even have time to try to see if they gave him the right type of blood. I can agree with Rain’s cousin about Rick not having any scars because I had seen him without his shirt on in the summer and I did not see any scars on him. Just a fat gut. This always made me wonder if all of those Viet Nam stories were true or not. I think the man is a habitual liar. He was always trying to make money without having a real job. He was always trying to make money on the internet and I guess he finially found a way by exploiting his children. And if I’m not mistaken he was trying to set up something called the “Healing House” before or at the time that Rain got sick. So I’m sure that this “Healing House” that you have him pictured behind is a scam. I’m so glad that I google’d Rick Cantrell and found your website so I could find out that my hunch was right. This guy if full of ****. He cannot be trusted.

He also very quickly cleaned up what was available on the internet–the pictures of RAIN and his children. Birds of a feather flock together…it’s interesting that he’s pictured alongside “Sir” Edward Artis.

JUST TO ADD: I KNEW RICK SINCE 1990 AND RAIN SINCE 1994. WE MET RICK WHEN HE WAS RIDING MOTORCYCLES WITH THE SAME PEOPLE MY HUSBAND KNEW. I BECAME GOOD FRIENDS WITH HIS WIFE CYNDI. RAIN AND RICK WERE NEVER MARRIED. SHE WOULD NOT MARRY HIM. HE HAS NEVER BEEN TO MEDICAL SCHOOL. HE TOOK A MAIL ORDER COURSE IN HERBAL MEDICINE. RAIN CALLED HIM MEDICINE BEAR BECAUSE HE WAS SO FAT. SO IT STUCK. HE IS NOT A MINISTER. HE RECEIVED A DOCUMENT FROM A ONLINE COMPANY STATING HE WAS A MINISTER WHEN THEY LIVED IN WEAVERVILLE, NC. HE WAS A PARAMEDIC IN THE ARMY WHEN HE RETIRED. HE WAS MARRIED TO TWO OTHER WOMEN BEFORE HE MET RAIN. HE HAS THREE GROWN CHILDREN THAT WILL NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH HIM. HE KILLED MY BEST FRIEND RAIN TRYING TO TREAT HER. IN THE LAST MONTHS HE STARVED HER AS WELL. ONLY ALLOWING HER TO EAT RAW FOOD. SHE WAS SO SICK SHE COULD’NT DIGEST THESE FOODS. HE TRIED TO KEEP ANYONE AWAY THAT KNEW HIM OR RAIN BEFORE THEY MOVED TO WEAVERVILLE, BECAUSE WE COULD BLOW HIS SCAM. HIS YOUNG SON’S WERE AFRAID OF HIM AND RAIN TRIED TO KEEP THEM IN THE ROOM WITH HER AS MUCH AS SHE COULD. HE KEPT HER FAMILY AWAY AND ONLY ALLOWED THEM TO VISIT WHEN SHE WAS DYING. HE IS NOT NATIVE AMERICAN. HE USE TO MAKE FUN OF PEOPLE PRACTICING THE BELIEFS OF THE NATIVE AMERICANS. HE IS MEXICAN MIX AND SPEAKS SPANISH FLUENTLY. HE WILL USE YOU, LIE TO YOU,STEAL FROM YOU, LEAVE YOU, AND KILL YOU IF IT SUITS HIM. I personally knew Rick too and he was NONE of those things everyone here is saying. He was and is a wonderful human being. If you all are into bashing and destroying a person’s character publically, you have the biggest problem. If these things were true, and you personally knew him and witnessed this, why didn’t you help and step in when help was needed? Your comments here tell about YOU more than about anyone. You all are VERY lacking in your own characters. No one can believe this trash you are spewing out.

Cao, Its really too bad you can’t print all of my comments. This shows greatly what your character is about too. That you don’t care about destroying someone’s reputation publically is one thing, but why are you hell bent on destroying his kids and family too? What kind of a reputable blog/site is this? You really are pitiful

Look, I don’t have to do what you tell me to. You are not the boss of me. You have some big balls telling these people with completely believable stories that they’re liars.
I am about telling the truth about Cantrell and Artis - not about covering for them as you appear to be.
Get lost.
Some day there should be a movie that comes out that’s entitled “the story behind ‘beyond the call’” - which will tell the true story of Artis and Cafasso and Cantrell…birds of a feather stick together.

I would not be suprised if “Frank” was acutally Rick.
I just wanted you to know that the reason I didn’t do anything was because I was foolish enough to believe everything Rick was telling me and I fell victim to his con. I did not find out about all of his lies until after I had not seen him for a few years. When I heard about what had happened to his kids I felt bad, but at least they are in good hands now. I’m not sure what “Frank” thinks I was supposed to do. How was I to get involved when I didn’t know that he was mistreating his kids, and Nancy “Rain” never expressed any concerns to me or my ex-wife about Rick. I thought everything was fine. I did not agree with his treatment of her cancer, but I thought that was how Rick and Nancy wanted to deal with her treatment. I didn’t think it was really my business. She didn’t want to get chemo, or at least said that she didn’t want chemo. I should have stayed in touch more after she died, and then maybe I could have found about the mistreatment of the kids and could have contacted their grandparents and uncle. But I cannot change the past and I feel awful that they had to go through that. Rick was also kind of intimidating. Hell, I thought he was this badass ex-special forces guy that was a kung-fo master. How naive I was. Well I just wanted to let you know that I was not just bashing Rick and making all of that up. I just wanted to back up Nany’s cousin’s statement because I had heard that he had dropped off the kids at Nany’s brothers house and then skipped the country.
