See Michael Smerconish’s page on Daniel Faulkner here.

Faulkner is the young police officer who died on the evening of December 9, 1981. He was a 25-year old police officer pulling the nightshift when he pulled over a VW going the wrong way on a one-way street. William Cook was the name of the VW driver. After sucker punching Faulkner in the face, his brother, a wannabe journalist and sometimes Black Panther activist decided to step in. Wesley Cook, was a taxicab driver across the street, watching. Wesley was carrying a firearm he’d legally purchased from a Philadelphia sporting goods store. Yanking his gun from its holster, Wesley ran across the street and fired his weapon into Officer Faulkner’s back. Faulkner shot back, hitting Wesley Cook in the stomach. Wesley Cook then stood over Faulkner and pumped five more shots into him, one to the brain. There were five witnesses to the shooting, and Cook even confessed to the crime when he was taken to the same hospital saying of his crime; “I shot the motherfucker, and I hope that motherfucker dies.” But this shouldn’t come as a surprise, as a Black Panther activist, Wesley Cook had glorified violence toward the police, he was just following through on on his activism.

Ed Asner and Mike Farrell, among a long list of Hollywood idiots have glorified the perp in this crime, who has since assumed the name of “Mumia Abu-Jamal”.

And so you see “Free Mumia” shirts and signs, as this criminal has become the focus of a fabricated tale of injustice and persecution that has attracted a crowd of Hollywood leftists.

From Danny’s widow’s lawyer:

The ways in which Mumia’s story has been spun out of control are as disgusting as they are numerous. Keep in mind that this is all AFTER he was convicted of murder: National Public Radio signed Mumia to do radio commentaries from behind bars. Addison Wesley publishing came out with a book of his writings, penned while on death row. Students at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington and Antioch, in Yellow Springs, Ohio, have hosted Mumia, via audiotape, as a commencement speaker. Thousands have marched in his honor in cities around the world. A full page ad ran in the New York Times embracing his cause and signed by the likes of Alec Baldwin, Roger Ebert, Spike Lee, Paul Newman, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon and Oliver Stone. Rage Against the Machine and Beastie Boys played before 16,000 in a Mumia Benefit in New Jersey. The City of San Francisco, named a day in his honor. The City of Oakland, birthplace of Ebonics, closed their City Schools for a day to teach children who can barely read and write about the “travesty” of Mumia’s conviction. Even as I write, in 2003, the City of Paris named him an Honorary Citizen. I wish I were kidding. But at home in the City of Philadelphia, people generally know what happened and are repelled by the attention the case has received for a quarter century.

I think it’s time people thought about Danny Faulkner himself, and the widow he left behind at the young age of 25. And stop glorifying criminals.

Wesley Cook’s two-week trial for First Degree murder in Philadelphia, was back in 1982. The strange thing about it is–he personally helped select the jury, which included people of color. Deliberations lasted just under six hours and returned a conviction. It was another two hours of deliberations by the same jury that returned his death sentence. Numerous appeals and years and years later, he’s lauded as practically a saint and is having streets named after him.

Hot Air has a great VENT on this here.

Update: Michelle Malkin shows us here how Faulkner’s widow spent this anniversary of her husband’s death.

When Hurricane Katrina made landfall and caused the damage to New Orleans the left was quick to jump on the Bush Administration as inept and unable to respond or help. They completely ignored the fact that FEMA is not a first responder and that the lo…

A street named for a cop murderer: OBSCENE

It is simply disgusting that some French leftists want to appease Muslims in St. Denis by naming a street after Mumia abu Jamal, who murdered Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner 25 years ago. This first happened in May. It wouldn’t surprise m…

    Remember Daniel Faulkner

Today is the 25th Anniversary of Daniel Faulkner’s death. He is the Philadelphia police officer that was murdered by Mumia Abu-Jamal. Mumia Abu-Jamal was a convert to Islam and many left-wing groups shamefully describe him as a “political prisoner”….

    No justice for Daniel Faulkner

On December 9, 1981, Philadelphia Police Officer Danial Faulkner was newly married and not yet twenty-seven years old. That night he made a traffic stop on a car going the wrong way and a scuffle ensued with the driver. The

Just thought I’d let you know that the group defending Mumia is joining the protesters who are marching on the Pentagon on March 17, 2007.

Wouldn’t it be great to see our finest Philadelphia Police Department standing with the veterans at the Wall?

    I’d love it.

  6. Cao Says:

Yep, it’s the same moonbats. We see the same faces at protests; there are not thousands of them - and a lot of them are PAID PROFESSIONALS.

  7. Ed Brown Says:

What is wrong with the left-wing people in this country? This man is a convicted murderer!!! All the left-wing wacko celebrities who are supporting this cause should be deported to Iran. Can they not find a better cause?

  8. Cao Says:

Would you include Matt Lauer in that? LOL

Yes, it’s no wonder a gallup poll recently found Republicans have better mental health than liberals.

Liberalism is a mental disorder; a demonstration of moral inversion, among other things. The ideology seems to be a hatred of everything that is right, in order to prop everything that is wrong, so there is no difference between right and wrong in their minds.

But discriminating between right and wrong could mean the difference between drug addiction and no drug addiction, unwanted pregnancy and STDs…I mean the choices seem pretty clear.

I would think they could find a better cause, but then–they’re not interested necessarily in doing what is RIGHT…they’re interested in pursuing a fantasy where all choices lead to good outcomes, and there are no consequences to bad choices.

They use any number of invented diseases to excuse people for bad behavior. Their upbringing, their ‘environment’, child abuse, mental retardation, you name it. In a liberal world, there is no such thing as personal responsibility-it’s everyone else’s fault. It’s the love of victimhood. But only when it props a leftist cause.

They don’t support all victims…because they seem to be in love with Islamofascism, those who convert to Islam, like Mumia, make him a saint. They don’t object to the way women are treated under Islam, either…so there’s a contradiction in terms of the feminist movement, also.

All cop-killer cases where they overemphasize feeling sorry for the killers are sickening to me.

This is one of the most famous cases of moonbattery…but there are others.

Troy Anthony Davis in the cop killing of Mark Allan McPhail
George and Jennifer Hyatte in the cop killing of Wayne (Cotton) Morgan
Dexter Bostic for the cop killing of Russel Timoshenko, and Robert Ellis for the shooting of Officer Herman Yan.

Shawn LaBeet in the cop killing of Jose Somohano

    And the list goes on…

Even Ice Tea put out a song glorifying cop killing…

Better causes are out there. A friend of mine was in a dollar store over the weekend. They were asking people at the checkout to contribute a buck to help buy Christmas for the children of fallen Soldiers. The two women in front of my girlfriend made the mistake of ranting at the girl checking them out that they didn’t ask that soldier to go fight and die and that the soldiers wife needs to go out and get a job like other people, blah de dah! My girlfriend, who herself lives in a trailer that should be condemned, told those women that “those soldiers fight and die for their right to be selfish and self serving at Christmas time, so they needed to be at least respectful of that and then told the girl at the check out that she’d give 3 dollars… two for the women who were too busy being ungrateful, one for her. The women shut up and left, the checkout girl gave my friend a look of gratitude and there you have it. Liberalism at it’s best. Having seen it in action many times now, I think it is a sign of low self esteem and narcissism.
JMHO. But don’t get me wrong. If those ladies didn’t care to give, that is fine, just shut up about it and definately don’t attack a little girl just doing her job!!!

Our ignorance in this matter is unfortunate, as Daniel Faulkner is a key figure in the most heated political issue of the day.December 9, 1981; 4:52 A.M. Twenty-five year old Philadelphia cop Daniel Faulkner is pronounced dead, the victim of several gunshot wounds. Forensics reveal that Daniel Faulkner was shot once in the back from a range of less than 5 feet and once in the face from a range of less than 12 inches.
