newspaper bias is for shaping public opinion
There is no other explanation for it. California Conservative discusses the findings of a “study” by the University of Chicago which the paper of treason, the New York Times, uses to explain the bias of newsrooms and reporting today. It’s not that the reporters start out with a political bias, it’s that the readers expect to read what they’re writing! That’s the ticket! They’re just giving their audience what they want!
This is like claiming that 11-year-old children want to learn how to put a condom on a banana! That’s what they’re being taught in schools, after all, and as the writer at the California Conservative points out, they’re just going from one instance of shaping opinion on certain subjects (public schools), to another (the newsroom), more grown-up form of indoctrination. Well THAT explains it!
Hyscience takes up the discussion:
They blame the cart for leading the horse astray - the researchers blame the slant on the “feelings of the paper’s subscriber base.”
AIM Report: New Evidence of Liberal Media Bias - November A
A new survey confirms that liberals and Democrats dominate the major media.
The website of the Project for Excellence in Journalism (PEJ) reports the findings from a new book, “The American Journalist in the 21st Century: US News People at the Dawn of a New Millennium.” It finds that 40 percent of journalists described themselves as being on the left side of the political spectrum and conservatives were only 25 percent. Moderates made up 33 percent.
In terms of political party affiliation, 36 percent of journalists said they were Democrats, but only 18 percent said they were Republicans.
Viewed in context, citing Gallup poll data on the ideological make-up of the public, the article on the PEJ website says that 40 percent of the journalists are liberal but only 17 percent of the public is. While 41 percent of the public is conservative, only 25 percent of the journalists are. That means there is a tremendous gulf in terms of the political views of journalists and the public.
The People Vs. The Press
That also means that conservatives and Republicans are being shortchanged in terms of their representation in the media. But don’t look for any affirmative action program to make up the difference. Our media, you see, are interested in hiring liberal journalists representing different sexual orientations or ethnic backgrounds, but philosophical diversity is something that is off the table.
What You Can Do
Send the enclosed cards or cards and letters of your own choosing to Professor Viet Dinh, Secretary of State Rice, and Jonathan Klein of CNN.
Libs are pretty happy with the media, I’ve had them come right up to me and ask me haven’t I watched the news on tv lately because I don’t repeat the stuff the MSM puts out, and I don’t recognize it as the truth. Actually, no, I haven’t watched the news lately. I’m disgusted by the big three and the reporting I see on CNN and others; I just turn it off. I’d rather get my news from other sources.
Just the example of my choices regarding where I get my daily diet of news shows that media reporting where conservatives are concerned, is in trouble. This is being consistently reflected over time in numbers such as these reported by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. A whopping 62% of people watching the 1987 election coverage in 1987 thought it was relatively free of partisan bias. The numbers slid after that; in 1996 it slid to 53%, in 2000 to 48%, and by 2004 it was down to 38%.
Liberals in the media aren’t very concerned about this decline, but they should be. Conservatives are going to continue to seek out new places to get their news and information, and the msm is going to continue to experience ever decreasing numbers in their audience as a result.

How interesting…Times Watch hasn’t picked this little tidbit up. They really should, since they’re supposed to be tracking the bias of the New York Times…
It should be pointed out the reason why there is a Times Watch:
Democrats find the major print outlets to be more credible than Republicans, with The New York Times having the most noticeable disparity between Republicans and Democrats. In 2004 the Pew Center found that the New York Times received a credibility score from Republicans of 14% compared to Democrats with 31%.
