hypocrisy anyone?

I actually didn’t even know this existed until I was reading this and this over at Wild Bill’s and ended up at Hot Air watching the Edwards/Marcotte silky pony video.

Get over yourselves, people. Hot Air can put up this thing with John Edwards’ face photoshopped into a my little pony cartoon, but that’s ok. What do you think the silky pony reference/connotation is all about, anyway? Well, you didn’t actually use the WORD, but…

thebreckgirls.jpgWhen people refer to him as the Breck girl and talk about John Kerry and John Edwards fighting over hairspray, where do you think that’s going, and what point are they making? And what about the Greys Anatomy actor, Isaiah Washington, who just went into counseling for calling his costar, T.R. Knight, a faggot? Is it that people don’t keep up with the entertainment news anymore? I have to say I’m somewhat surprised when Britney Spears’ shaved her head and Anna Nicole’s son died, and had a baby, and then died herself, those two and the weirdness that surrounded them have been quite the hot news items as of late.

Hypocrisy, anyone?

Here’s the video of Ann saying what she said so you can put it in the proper context.

It was inappropriate, although you might notice the wince on her face when the audience gasps reflects the mental notation she’s made that the joke bombed.

Mark Sprengel
makes an important point in comments at Bill’s. Mark thinks Ann should apologize, and frame her point better.

As to apologizing, she could simply say that her point was about free speech and she could have made the point in a less offensive manner. Her original comment could have been something like - “for example - if I used the word faggot to refer to John Edwards, some would say put me in to therapy. Now, I don’t think it’s a good word to use, but this sensitivity and extreme reaction to mere words is a problem in our society.” This point could also go further into explaining how the 1st ammendment has become a protection against being offended, a very serious matter.

It takes a bit more effort to do that and isn’t as cool a bomb to throw but it’s more mature to keep the point above the easy flame throwing.

Unfortunately, Wild Bill has taken the position of labeling people RINOs who take issue with Ann’s using the word faggot as opposed to people who don’t. Reliably, the Anti Idiotarian Rottweiler doesn’t have a problem with it, either.

I saw a guy put this in comments at Beth’s when one guy said Ann is worse than most liberals with her antics:

Worse than liberals? I wouldn’t say that. Ann crossed a line, and it doesn’t help, but last I looked, she wasn’t pieing people, tossing blood on them, defacing war memorials, having die ins, asking soldiers to shoot their officers. She’s looney sometimes, but she’s no lefty when it comes to antics.

Look, if people are going to join the consensus crowd, that’s all well and good, but I stand up for Coulter’s right to be who she is, and say whatever she says, in whatever manner she wants to say it. We don’t live in a fascist state; what ever happened to freedom of speech? People are behaving like those people on the lefty college campuses are with their code words.

There was a point she made with that comment, which, apparently, flew over everyone’s head like a mensa joke. And maybe, in the future, she should consider that most people are just not as smart and well-informed as she is - which is one of the problems we’ve got in this country; the dumbing down of people to accept socialism.

Amanda Marcotte at Pandagon by herself insults over half of America every day with her anti-Christian bigotry and hatespeech, and she’s joined by leftists and even college professors who are trolling the internet dropping troll turds on conservative blogs. I think we should call Ann out for inappropriate comments, but let’s keep it all in perspective and not further divide our own house. Don’t we have enough problems with the democrats controlling Congress? Stop being overly sensitive politically correct babies. Grow up, get a grip, and move on.

In the meantime if you’re not familiar with the Greys Anatomy situation, read Sweetness and Light’s take on this. Amazingly, this isn’t the first time that Coulter has made that remark. Perhaps the only thing that makes it notable this time is that it was made in front of an audience at CPAC.

I think the choice of terms was inappropriate, although it wasn’t even anything new that she pointed out. Personally, though, if it had been me, I would have taken Mark Sprengel’s approach, and chosen a different word or framed it for the audience better. Take a trip down memory lane and get over your oversensitive political correctness.
