do you see a magic wand in my pocket?
Michelle Malkin has the full transcript. They’re not just regular folks; they’re the anti-war group called the Occupation Project. This is where they ambush Appropriations Chairman Democrat David Obey in a hallway, and grill him about cutting off the funding. Go and read it. Two great excerpts from it:
OBEY: That’s the problem! That’s the problem! The liberal groups are jumping around without knowing what the hell is in the bill!
The finishing touch was this:
OBEY: We can’t get the votes! You see a magic wand in my pocket? How the hell are we going to get the votes for it? We ain’t got the votes for it. We do have the votes if you guys quit screwing it up. We do have the votes to end the legal authority for the war. That’s the same as de-funding it–YES IT WOULD!
Walks away. Slams office door.
What it boils down to, as Bill Teach points out in his post here, is that the democrats and slogan slinging commie anti-war people don’t even understand what’s in the legislation being proposed. The legislation (supplemental) would make the war ‘illegal’, (oh, so the war is not illegal?)-something that the unhinged don’t seem to quite understand.
OBEY: (Getting agitated). It doesn’t–we’re trying to–the President wants to continue the war. We’re trying to use the supplemental to end the war. But you can’t end the war if you vote against the supplemental. It’s time these idiot liberals understand that. There’s a hell of a difference between de-funding the troops and ending the war. I’m not gonna deny body armor. I’m not gonna deny funding for veterans’ hospitals and for defense hospitals so you can help people who have medical problems. And that’s what you do if you vote against that bill.
It would be a cowardly act, and most representatives understand that, even though the nutroots don’t, to claim you support the troops but then deny them the funding, as Tom Hayden has suggested in defeat strategy. But the nutroots and unhinged want to follow Hayden’s plan, even when it makes no sense compared to what the democrats in office are doing. The nutroots are unable, it seems, to let go of their slogans and apply COMMON SENSE.
The first thing they should do is shut up and read the legislation so they know what to complain about! And stop wasting the time of the people who are negotiating these things in the House.
But maybe we should just allow them to keep screwing up their efforts to stop the war, because it’s a war I don’t think we can afford to bail out of at this point. The jihadis are committed to accomplish their goals over generations. They are betting that our short ADD attention span and our election cycles will ensure their victory, just as it did with Vietnam. I am hoping and praying that enough Americans see the big picture that the slogan slinging marxists don’t get their way in government policy on the war.
