Fred Thompson to officially join the 2008 Presidential race

DES MOINES, Iowa — Republican Fred Thompson will officially launch his presidential bid Sept. 6 in a Webcast on his campaign site, followed by a five-day tour of early primary states.
“I believe that there are millions of Americans who know that our security and prosperity are at risk if we don’t address the challenges of our time; the global threat of terrorism; taxes and spending that will bankrupt future generations, and a government that can’t seem to get the most basic responsibilities right for its citizens,” the former Tennessee senator and “Law & Order” actor said in a statement Thursday that laid out themes of his campaign.
Thompson, 65, is vying to be seen as the most consistent mainstream conservative in the race. Aides disclosed details about how he will formally enter the race in a conference call with supporters.
Evening house parties will be held nationwide on Sept. 6. A tour of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina will quickly follow the Internet announcement on http://www.imwithfred.com — with later stops in Florida, and a homecoming event in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., on Sept. 15.
Earlier this year, Thompson saw his popularity soar in polls when he acknowledged he was considering a run. Since then, he’s consistently ranked among the top Republicans in national polls and surveys in key states alike.

Just announced that Old Fred is buying ad time right before the NH debate. He can take time to do an ad that will probably have to be taped several times, but he has no time to get in earlier and debate.
This Republican wouldn’t vote for Fred under any circumstance and I know I am not alone. This stunt on top of announcing the day after the NH debate is disgusting and I cannot wait for him to get his head handed to him if he ever debates. After all, he seems to be above debating.
Michael Reagan said he is not Ronald Reagan and obviously after the latest stunt he is nothing more than a “B” list actor with props.
How anyone can support this man is beyond a lot of us. As for being a ‘true’ conservative, give us a break. Duncan Hunter yes, Old Fred no way. Oldest looking 65-year old most of us have ever seen — he looks old and ill and Hillary would have him for lunch.

I agree with you — there’s alot more behind-the-scenes with Fred that alot of people don’t know about yet; which caused me to back away from him quickly.
