Flag-folding is now BANNED in the United States of America???

Okay — now I’m really pissed and angry … what the hell is this country coming to???

I, as a Former United States Marine who proudly served this country am one very highly pissed-off S.O.B. about this and wish that someone would tell me to my face I can’t fold the AMERICAN FLAG AT ANY UNITED STATES CEMETERY — and, your sorry-ass had better practice falling down for at least 6 months prior to telling me that!!!

Flag-folding recitations for vets banned because of religious content - Associated Press OneNewsNow.com October 26, 2007

RIVERSIDE,California - Complaints about religious content have led to a ban on flag-folding recitations by Veterans Administration employees and volunteers at all 125 national cemeteries. It all started because of one complaint about the ceremony at Riverside National Cemetery in California.

During thousands of military burials, the volunteers have folded the American flag 13 times and recited the significance of every fold to survivors. For example, the 12th fold glorifies “God the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost.”

The complaint revolved around the narration in the 11th fold, which celebrates Jewish war veterans and “glorifies the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.”

The National Cemetery Administration decided to ban the entire recital at all national cemeteries. Details of the complaint weren’t disclosed.

I’ve done it already, and as I told my friend Dave (a Vet), the fact that most of the folks buried in National Cemeteries have fought and many times died to defend that flag and the right to participate in whatever ceremony one sees fit to participate in, is what makes that ban a bunch of Bull $hit!!! I personally would ignore any such ban!

Flag-folding Recitations by Memorial Honor Details are Banned in Veteran Cemeteries

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard the accusation that the right is restricting the rights of the people, that the right is taking away free speech and freedom of expression. Etc Etc Etc. We all know the drill. Its the mantra…

Does anyone think that political correctness has finally come more than full circle,
or is it just to many people with too much time on their hands?
What can you correct next for us imbeciles who cant do anything but follow.
    DISGUSTING.
Nation is only build up by its people, customs, language, which differenciate it from
other nations, Stepping on national flag custom or Vets rights should be unthinkable.

The VA is STILL dropping the ball on this. Maybe next they will expect families of the fallen to pay for the funeral if prayer is made! Maybe make them rent flags for the ceremony. I don’t know of a single Vet who has fought for political correctness or one that would! HoosierAM

“Honoring the burial wishes of veterans is one of the highest commitments for the men and women of VA,” said William F. Tuerk, VA’s Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs. “A family may request the recitation of words to accompany the meaningful presentation of the American flag as we honor the dedication and sacrifice of their loved ones.”

Traditional gravesite military funeral honors include the silent folding and presentation of an American flag, a 21-gun rifle salute, and the playing of “Taps.”

    The clarification includes the following:
    * Volunteer honor guards are authorized to read the so-called “13-fold” flag recitation or any comparable script;
    * Survivors of the deceased need to provide material and request it be read by the volunteer honor guards; and
    * Volunteer honor guards will accept requests for recitations that reflect any or no religious traditions, on an equal basis.

Fox news is reporting that several congressmen have asked the Veteran’s Adminstration to reconsider its blanket ban on the Flag Folding Ceremony at National Cemetaries:

A group of congressmen has asked the Department of Veterans Affairs to reconsider its ban on the flag-folding ceremony at military funerals after the agency decided last month to streamline burials at federal cemeteries.

“The flag folding recitation is a longstanding tradition which brings comfort to the living and honor to the deceased,” Rep. Heath Shuler, D-N.C., writes in his letter Tuesday signed by 11 other congressmen. “The recitations accompanying each fold pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of our veterans and their families, the nation they proudly serve, and the beliefs that they hold dear.”

Veterans Affairs made the new policy decision last month, after a complaint was filed to the White House, said Rees Lloyd, a member of the American Legion’s Memorial Honor Detail for services at Riverside National Cemetery in California.

“To me, it’s a slap in the face for every veteran, every member of the Memorial Honor Detail and every family of the deceased veteran,” Lloyd said.
