Verifying Rawls’ calculations with google earth
Aside from homework, I did this today. Google Earth is an amazing tool to use for things like this; anybody can do it–I did this with the free version.
Verified:
Orientation to Mecca from the tower of voices:
There is a line that is created at the edge of the pine trees surrounding the tower of voices Islamic sundial.
Throw that line out to Mecca and see what happens:
Bullseye!
I went back and forth and it works every time.
The memorial is oriented to Mecca, there is no doubt about it.
Connect the obtruding tips of the large mihrab crescent that turns red around 9/11 because of the choice of maple trees and use the perpendicular bisector:
It goes around the world…
And lands right where Rawls said it would.
Then, checking the orientation to Washington, D.C.:
This one doesn’t have as far to go:
Bingo.
In the movie above, I referenced the Hirsi Ali controversy and the Imam saying she should die because she was an apostate.
