giving thanks
I’ve been taking in some scripture today about Thanking God, and reviewing some of the history behind the celebration of Thanksgiving. For us Christians, every day should be a day of Thanksgiving. God bless you all today, and every day, as this blog has been a tool; for not only learning, but making friends across the world.
As much as hateful leftists want to turn Thanksgiving and Columbus day into an attack on what started America, I am grateful that Christianity and science were what inspired Christopher Columbus to explore.
Columbus saw his voyage like this:
“Who can doubt that this fire was not merely mine, but also the Holy Spirit who encouraged me with a radiance of marvelous illumination from his sacred Scriptures,…urging me to press forward?”
He felt that Almighty God had brought the whole thing about: “With a hand that could be felt, the Lord opened my mind to the fact that it would be possible…and he opened my will to desire to accomplish that project…The Lord purposed that there should be something miraculous in this matter of the voyage to the Indies.”
And it is no secret that the reason the Pilgrims came here on the Mayflower was for religious freedom.
It is a shame that atheists today are trying to rob us of that precious freedom, but I still thank God every day that I live in a country where I’ve been able to enjoy it; without fear of being beaten by religious police in the streets, or arrested for preaching the Bible. Christians in other countries, like Korea, have it much worse.
I’d like to say a special thanks to Fahim for his friendship and kind words. There are really too many people to list that I’m thankful for.
Let’s give thanks today, and try to remember to give thanks every day, even when the going gets rough.
Psalms 107:8-98Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 9For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. - King James Version
Psalms 69:30I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. - King James Version
It’s difficult at times to slow down when we’re rushing around doing things. I myself have a full-time job, am going to school, and keep this blog up and do an amazing amount of research for my pet projects. And I always have pet projects, that I can flit back and forth between. Lately, in addition to everything else, I’ve been playing around with GIMP and new blog skins here- and fooling around with Sketchup along with google earth in order to make some interesting-looking 3-d models. It’s really quite fascinating stuff, and I am so lucky to be at a stage in life where I can do these things. Technology is both a curse and a blessing.
I’m thankful to my husband for his support in my efforts in doing and accomplishing all these things. Really, though, none of it is of any such great significance, although fighting the battle against evil and evil forces in the world always makes me feel as though I’m very empowered.
But in addition to all that, sometimes I forget to stop and BREATHE. I have a long drive back and forth through sometimes wall-to-wall traffic, but…I was reminded even more today…
Some people have it much worse off than we do. So it’s time to take a breath and think of others, and give thanks for all we have. And if we’re in a position to do so, help someone out if we can. That’s what it’s all about, and some, like Reverend Wurmbrand, was able to sing God’s praises even when he was in a communist prison camp in Romania. Now that is a true testament of unwaivering faith.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
