Iraq Elections

Posters of the “Iraq tomorrow” NGO (iraqoftomorrow.org) encouraging the people to vote. The poster says “to grant our children a better future”

My prayers and condolences are with the families of the marines and Iraqis who were killed this past week in the heliocopter crash. Every day, coalition forces and courageous Iraqis put their lives at risk in the struggle for freedom, free expression, and the right to vote. We are up against the worst kind of enemy–those who do not want this for the Iraqi people.

GROUND-LEVEL NEWS COVERAGE OF IRAQ’S ELECTION

Spirit of America has been supporting Friends of Democracy in Iraq to provide a ground-level view of the election from the people and bloggers of Iraq. It seems that major media often focuses on the violence and terrorism. Given the historic nature of this election we think people deserve better. The goal is to offer a full picture of the elections from the perspective of Iraqis. There are lots of good reports already on the Friends of Democracy site click here. It is not “candy coated” - it includes good news and bad. Take a look now and make sure to check it on Sunday.

Friends of Democracy is using Spirit of America’s Arabic blogging tool (aka Arabic Internet publishing tool) to publish election information for people in Iraq. Background on the Iraq election news project is here: Blogging Project

Do Iraqis want the spirit of America or the spirit of iraq? That is the question.

Read their blog. We’re just not getting the other side of the story from the media, Paul. The media is all about accentuating the violence, and reporting bad news. It’s “doom and gloom” from the media, and I’ve come to expect it.

I find it interesting that you’re challenging or asking questions about my views on God.

Of course, a person who goes to “meetings” and doesn’t study scripture or even acknowledge the Bible’s veracity…would probably say that the jihadists are equally “right,” that we don’t have a monopoly on morality.

These people are most adamant in refusing to accept Scripture (its 7,500 prophecies that have come to pass are just “coincidence, etc.) It is like talking about the impossibility of “evolution” to an “evolutionist.” They are obstinate in their refusal to accept the basic premises on which God says we should operate.

Yes, if you believe Scripture is the written Christ, God’s teaching for mankind, that it was written to be understood, & that it teaches principles on which we can depend, etc., we can be confident that we are on God’s side. This is a campaign of the troops of Allah trying to annihilate the troops of Christ.

Scripture tells us to “stand” (in the military sense, i.e., take a position & hold it) for Christ.

If you believe that God is “the force,” deny the trinity & the veracity of Scripture, believe “life experiences” teach us about spiritual things. (?) Don’t have a pastor and belong to a leftist outfit that (sometimes) calls itself “christian.” (Small “c” there.) then I don’t think we have a lot to talk about, debate or discuss.

And further, if you consider how the terrorists have been threatening the voters and still, they’re planning on voting to the tune of 80%…that tells you just about everything. This is the first election they’ve had in 50 years.

The Pasedena Star reported this (click here for the entire article):

THE thugs who once ruled Iraq, and the radical Islamists who now terrorize it, have spent the weeks leading up to today’s election distributing helpful leaflets. “We vow to wash the streets of Baghdad with the voters’ blood’ reads one. Another: “To those of you who think you can vote and then run away, we will shadow you and catch you, and we will cut off your heads and the heads of your children.’

Yet despite the barbarous threats, the unrelenting violence and the unmistakable dangers, Iraqis are expected to turn out in droves for this election. Some experts predict that as much as 80 percent of all eligible voters will show up at the polls numbers that could exceed voter participation in Afghanistan’s historic elections last October.

It’s almost enough to make one believe that maybe President Bush wasn’t just waxing poetic when, in his much-derided inaugural address, he declared that “freedom is the permanent hope of mankind.’

But freedom sure seems to be the “permanent hope’ of the Iraqis who will risk their lives to vote.

And freedom not American policy, not foreign meddling, but freedom itself is clearly the permanent fear of the terrorist insurgents who desperately want to block this election, or, barring that, to strip it of legitimacy in the eyes of Iraqis and the world.

As you could see in the piece further down (click here), there are many Iraqis who despised Saddam’s regime and are glad for the prospect of freedom in Iraq.
