Paul Mitchell Calls on Sandy Cole to Enforce the Law

Parental Notification Law Should be Enforced

Hainesville, IL-Paul Mitchell, candidate for Illinois House Representative in District 62, calls upon his opponent Sandy Cole (R-Grayslake), to use her influence as a State Representative and call on Governor Quinn to direct the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to enforce the Parental Notification Law that was passed in 1995.

Parental notification is required to give a child an aspirin at school; if a teenager attempts to buy a gun; or tries to get ears pierced. Certainly, abortion is just as serious a decision to make as any of those. This law, passed in 1995, has never been implemented due to a variety of obstacles. But now the obstacles have been cleared, the courts have upheld the law, the rules for judicial bypass written, and it only remains for the state government to put the law into effect.

Sandy Cole’s voting record on this issue is not good. In her first term, she worked on a bill that would have gutted the this law. In the current session, she voted in committee for a bill that would have entirely repealed parental notification. “She calls herself pro-family,” said Mitchell, “but when Mrs. Cole uses that term, it doesn’t mean what it means to most voters in the 62nd District.”

Paul Mitchell urges Sandy Cole to use her influence and contact Governor Quinn to direct the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to enforce the law; which reflects the conscience of citizens with pregnant teenage-age children, who desperately need the counsel of adults who love them at such a critical moment in their lives.
