Beltway Sniper John Allen Muhammad to be executed tomorrow

For three weeks in 2002, John Allen Muhammad and a teenage boy, Lee Boyd Malvo, terrorized people across Maryland, Virginia and Washington, acting as a two-man sniper team that murdered indiscriminately. In total, there were 10 victims over a period of three weeks.

Muhammad’s execution by lethal injection is scheduled for tomorrow for the murder of Dean Harold Meyers, 53, on the evening of October 9, 2002 when he was shot to death from a wound to the head from long distance at a service station in Virginia.

Muhammad, formerly Williams before he converted to Islam, has lawyers who are trying to defend him on appeal, with claims he is mentally ill; but his second wife who separated from him in 1999, disagrees.

Muhammad’s second wife Mildred, published a book last month called “Scared Silent”. In it, she says Muhammad threatened to kill her and she thinks she was the target. His plan, she believes, was to make it appear as though her death was part of a random killing spree by an unknown culprit; in order to take his three children back. On her road to recovery from her abusive relationship with him, she started a program called After The Trauma Inc., which is a resource for domestic-violence victims, and is involved with other organizations that do similar work.

Muhammad hasn’t expressed any remorse for his crimes, and as recently as May of 2008, declared he and Malvo were ‘two innocent black men’.

Relatives of the victims plan on attending the execution; let’s hope and pray they find closure and are able to move on with their lives.

That is, if the social justice crowd doesn’t succeed in stopping the execution with phone calls, candlelight vigils, etc. I say this because Muhammad isn’t mentioned in very many places as a muslim, but he is.

A reminder of Muhammad’s plan:

Malvo testified that Muhammad, driven by hatred of America because of its “slavery, hypocrisy and foreign policy” and his belief that “the white man is the devil”, planned to kill six whites a day for 30 days.

Malvo alleged that Muhammad had said: “We are going to go to the Washington DC area and we are going to terrorise these people.”

They then intended to move to Baltimore for stage two of their campaign, to shoot a policeman and then blow up explosives at his funeral.

More explosives would target the ambulances that would then rush to the funeral. Another plan to kill three busloads of schoolchildren was thwarted because the pair were arrested when Malvo fell asleep while keeping watch at a Maryland petrol station.

Muhammad’s ultimate plan, Malvo testified, was to indoctrinate 140 young homeless men at a Canada compound who would “shut things down” in cities across America, unless they received £5 million.
