(THE LETTER: I was very disappointed in your endorsement of Andy McKenna.
His abrupt abandonment of the Illinois GOP showed a self-serving side that lacked integrity and does not bode well for the state of Illinois. I believe your rival Sun Times made a much better endorsement with Kirk Dillard. Dillard has shown a tremendous lack of the destructive partisanship that has torn our state apart. His plans to make Illinois live within its means and make this state a place for economic development is exactly what we need from our governor.)

(THE ARTICLE: The campaign ad never actually uses the word you think you hear.
Say “Schillerstrom” fast — as in Bob Schillerstrom, the DuPage County Board president trying to get traction in his Republican bid for governor.
A new ad he released Monday features sports fans bundled against the cold, watching a game, saying that Springfield needs a big “S— storm” to “cut spending” and “balance the budget” there. A well-timed air-horn masks the name’s mispronunciation.
A mother in the back benches covers her daughter’s ears.
Schillerstrom leans over and tells the sports fans the correct pronunciation of his name.
“I think I like ‘Schiller-storm’ better,” they say.)

BLOOMINGTON PANTAGRAPH
– Illinois lawmakers return to work very briefly
Illinois lawmakers are coming back to work, but it will be a brief visit. Legislators will meet on Tuesday and then convene the next day for Governor Pat Quinn’s State of the State address. Then they head back to their districts until after the primary election on Feb. 2. There’s plenty of work waiting for the Legislature. The state budget is full of holes. Some officials are angry over the governor’s early release of prisoners. Others want to discuss a tax increase. But it’s common for major decisions to wait until after elections in political years.

DAILY HERALD
– GOPers dump Skoien – Joseph Ryan
http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/3223
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Meanwhile, it seems top Republican leaders are turning on Palatine Township GOP Committeeman Gary Skoien as he seeks re-election following a domestic incident involving his wife and two other women at his Inverness home.
Challenger Aaron Del Mar, a freshman Palatine councilman, says he has landed the backing of both Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady of St. Charles and Cook County GOP boss Lee Roupas.
Roupas has the seat Skoien had from 2004 to 2007 when he famously put a bounty on Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s head for evidence that would lead to his conviction on corruption charges. Meanwhile, Del Mar has never voted in a Republican primary. According to voter records, the 31-year-old has only voted in one primary – a Democratic one.
Del Mar tells Animal Farm that is because he is young. He hasn’t had much time, he says, to cast primary ballots. He says he voted in the 2008 Democratic primary to help drag out that parties internal battles leading into the general election.
You may recall that conservative talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh had employed their followers to do so.
Skoien took over the Palatine Township GOP apparatus earlier this decade and he ran against U.S. Rep. Phil Crane in primaries twice, unsuccessfully.
Del Mar is backed by long-time opponents of Skoien, who has also worked to oust state Rep. Suzie Bassi.
Skoien is taking heat on the local campaign trail for a March incident that landed him as a joke line on the Jay Leno show.
Skoien’s wife was charged with battery for allegedly hitting her husband over the head with a toy guitar when she caught him in their home early in the morning with two other women. The police report says Skoien said the women were prostitutes, but Skoien later denied that.
The charges have been dropped and a divorce is pending.)

DIERSEN: According to ABC7, “I’m sure you will recall the discussion we had at the planning meeting about the 5% polling requirement. MCHENRY COUNTY BLOG
– The Postman Is Your Precinct Committeeman – Cal Skinner
http://mchenrycountyblog.com/2010/01/11/the-postman-is-your-precinct-committeeman/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I started noticing it when I looked at Friday’s mail.
Republican candidates are sending mailings to puff themselves up.
Or just to let us know they exist.
Candidates can’t count on precinct committeemen anymore. Besides GOP political organizations in the suburbs being shadows of what they used to be, what candidate in their right might would count on committeemen going door-to-door on February 2nd.
How much will have the snow have melted by then, even if we have a warm spell?
Setting the primary on Feb. 2nd was just another step in Mike Madigan’s centralization of power in the hands of those at the top. . .
I picked up my literature Friday night and took the photo you see above about 7:30. By the time closing time had rolled around on Saturday, about forth of some 200 precinct committeemen (if all the precincts were manned) had shown up to get literature. Most will mail what they picked up.
Friday I got an over-sized post card from Congressman Mark Kirk, the favorite to be the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama and occupied by Roland Burris.
The seat ought to be a pick-up, except for Kirk’s liberal congressional voting record, which has enraged many conservative Republicans. . .
Like Kirk Dillard, he plays the Jim Edgar card. There’s a photo of Edgar and Kirk and the message side of the postcard leads with this quote from Edgar:
“Mark has a superb record of integrity and ethics, and he has a great record on the issues as well.”. . .Kirk plays to his strong points, promising “Lower Taxes. . .Less Government. . .Tough on Corruption”
He actually has a record in those areas which would please a lot of Republicans.
I looked for any information on social issues, but no mention is made of any of his positions. Kirk also stresses his military record, as you can see if you click on the image of the address side of the piece and enlarge it.)

– Has your local Republican party organization received campaign literature from all the candidates in contested statewide and countywide races? – Dave Diersen
http://www.gopillinois.com
DuPage County is one of the most important Republican counties in Illinois. Milton Township is one of the most important townships in DuPage County. As a DuPage County Milton Township Republican Precinct Committeeman since 1999, my policy has always been to deliver all the campaign literature for all the candidates that the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) provides me. Has your local Republican party organization received campaign literature from all the candidates in contested statewide and countywide races? As of noon, Saturday, January 9, MTRCC had not yet received campaign literature from the candidates listed below. It is not too late for them to bring their literature in. However, Wednesday evening, January 13, is the constructive deadline because most of the MTRCC Precinct Committeemen will pick up campaign literature at MTRCC’s monthly meeting that evening, at the 285 Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn. What should I tell voters in my precinct who ask why MTRCC didn’t get literature to give its members for all the candidates in contested statewide and countywide races?

– Questions that still need answers:
- If Mark Kirk wins the Illinois U.S. Senate primary, but then, like Jack Ryan, withdraws, a) who will the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee (SCC) members fill the vacancy with and b) how fast will the IRP SCC fill the vacancy?
- Of all the candidates on February 2, 2010 primary ballots in Illinois, a) which ones have used illegal drugs, are using illegal drugs, and/or will use illegal drugs if/when they are legalized and b) which ones have friends, relatives, campaign staff, campaign volunteers, campaign contributors, etc. who have used illegal drugs, are using illegal drugs, and/or will use illegal drugs if/when they are legalized?
- What are IRP leaders doing to maximize Republican turnout for the February 2 primary election?
- What are the top 10 things that Illinois Republicans (as opposed to Combine members, Democrats, and RINOs) want IRP leaders to do?
- Why does the IRP promote so many candidates who reject so many planks in the IRP platform?
- What is the IRP’s financial condition — income and expenses during the last 12 months, assets, liabilities, net worth?
- During the last 12 months, which companies, organizations, and individuals contributed the most money to the IRP?
- During the last 12 months, what has the IRP spent most of its money on?
- To communicate, why does the IRP rely so heavily on the Democrat Party controlled Illinois news media?
- Why doesn’t the IRP communicate more? Why don’t IRP leaders communicate more?
- Why don’t Combine members, Democrats, RINOs, and the IRP want Illinois Republicans to read GOPUSA ILLINOIS daily emails?
- Which candidates do Combine members, Democrats, and RINOs want to win the Republican primary election on February 2?
- Why hasn’t Brady resigned as IRP National Committeeman?
- If/when Brady resigns as IRP National Committeeman, who is going to run for that position?
- Who is going to run for the IRP Chairman position?
- Who is going to run for each of the IRP SCC positions?
- Who is going to run for each of the IRP county/township/ward leadership positions?
- Because voters hold Republican leaders to much higher standards than they hold Democrat leaders, why are there so few requirements for holding IRP leadership positions?
- Who do Combine members, Democrats, and RINOs want the next IRP Chairman, the next IRP National Committeeman, the next IRP SCC members, and the next county/township/ward officers to be?
- For decades, the IRP has made it very clear that it is far more interested in making homosexuals and other anti-conservatives happy than making conservatives happy — why is that?
- For decades, the IRP has made it very clear that a) it does not want Illinois Republicans to directly elect SCC members and b) it wants individuals who it dominates (county/township/ward chairmen and precinct committeemen) to elect SCC members. For decades, it has been extremely rare for SCC elections to be contested. Why is that?
- The overwhelming majority of the IRP’s base supports SB600, but the IRP increasing makes it clear that it wants to drive those who support SB600 out of the party, that is, the IRP increasingly makes it clear that wants to drive the party’s base out of the party? Why is that?
- Why don’t SCC meetings include public comment periods?
- Why doesn’t the IRP issue summary reports on what happens during SCC meetings?
- What specific criteria and what specific process did the IRP use to declare that “Mr. Martin will no longer be recognized as a legitimate Republican Candidate by the Illinois Republican Party.” What due process did the IRP give Martin? What appeal rights does Martin have? How will the IRP punish Martin? How will the IRP punish those who don’t punish Martin?
- The IRP has already constructively declared that anyone who supports SB600 “will no longer be recognized as a legitimate Republican.” What appeal rights do SB600 supporters have? How long will the IRP continue to punish SB600 supporters? How long will the IRP continue to punish those who don’t punish SB600 supporters?
- Why has Brady removed the IRP Campaign Code of Conduct (http://www.digitalvictorycms.com/_uploaded/347054-IRPCodeofCampaignConduct.pdf) from the IRP website?
- Concerning the facts on which the ethics charges against McKenna are based, what facts did the current SCC members know and when did they know them?
- Because so many Republicans are running in so many contested races in the February 2, 2010 primary election, why haven’t IRP leaders scheduled post-election unity events?

Each and every morning, I send a GOPUSA ILLINOIS email to each and every GOPUSA ILLINOIS subscriber. If the email does not appear in your inbox, to view a copy of it, please visit: http://www.gopillinois.com. Also each and every morning, I post a link to that copy on the Illinoize page at http://www.capitalfax.blogspot.com. Since January 1, 2005, GOPUSA ILLINOIS has brought to your attention 57,380 internet postings and information on many upcoming events free of charge and without any advertising. GOPUSA ILLINOIS asks that its subscribers use the information in the emails to help elect and reelect Republicans who can and will defend and advance the Illinois Republican Party platform.
Thanks,
Dave Diersen
