In Memorium: Ronald Reagan

Today marks one year since Ronald Reagan’s funeral.

Mr. Politics has a great video remembering Ronald Reagan.

The song that compelled me not only to buy the Reagan memorial cd but also the sound track for We Were Soldiers still brings tears to my eyes. It’s from Mel Gibson’s film, We Were Soldiers and was played at Reagan’s funeral:
The Mansions of the Lord

Cathouse Chat has a great post up at her house and TWA today on Ronny. God bless him.

Thanks for this reminder! And thanks also for posting a link to this version of “Mansions of the Lord”. I had posted several times using a version from Reagan’s funeral, but had not gotten a separate recording from the “We Were Soldiers” movie as wav or mp3. One of the most powerful pieces of recent times, IMO. And it was fitting that it be used for the funderal of the man who was arguably the greatest American president of the 20th century.

My gawd – it’s been a year already?

The one part about his funeral that was most memorable for me, and I’ll openly admit it sent tears streaming down my cheeks, was when you could see the physical and mental strain his sickness and untimely passing had placed on Nancy, as she almost collapsed while laying on his casket and she finally cried.

God rest him well; be with Nancy and their family on this day of rememberance.

I have a sheet of his stamps. What an awesome president he was!

I’ve got a petition at my site and at TWA when you get a chance.

I served under 8 presidents, but I felt close to Ronald Reagan. He was a “Marine” kind of president, and I adored him personally and respected him greatly. If anyone can be regarded as Mr. America, it is Ronald Reagan. I wish he was still with us.

    Honoring Reagan

“I was pleased last year to proclaim 1983 the year of the Bible. But you know, a group called the ACLU severely criticized me for doing that. Well, I wear their indictment like a badge of honor.” ~ President Reagan, January 1984

I was at a meeting and my wife called me crying…she had just seen the news that he had passed.

Meeting adjourned, homebrew was uncorked and toasts were raised that day to a great man……one person began this statement, “I didn’t like..” and a glare from one of the soldiers, an Army Sgt., in our group told her that to speak another word against Reagan on that day was foolish indeed.

    I can’t believe a year has passed…..

He was a great leader, and never did get the credit he deserved in Europe. Not even in Britain, really, in spite of the great friendship with Margaret Thatcher. I remember when he refused to strike a deal with the Soviets in Iceland, the Euro-left were shrieking and flapping — They were sure he’d agree to give up the Star Wars programme, and, hence, keep communism in business. When he just walked out on the Russians, they were absolutely furious. But, two or three years later, down came the Berlin Wall. Heh.

Truly a once in a generation, probably once in a century man. I touched his hand once — when I was in Marine Boot camp. I was as giddy as a schoolgirl — well, as giddy as a Marine recruit can get.

    Wow, a year already?

Well, I for one say we dig up his corpse and parade it around the country like sick ******** again! Who is with me?!

Reagan was a great president, and some of his most amazing accomplishments would have to be: funding the mujahadean and having Bin Laden trained, Iran-Contra, and selling WMD materials to Saddam.

You will never, ever be forgotten to me Ronnie!

    The Patriot…for what country?

Actually, Bin Laden refused all training and funding by the CIA during the Soviet occupation…something you’d know if you read anything but leftist claptrap.

The Iran Contra mess was the result of Reagan’s disinterest in details of governing – a fault but hardly a mortal sin. I guess if given the choice, I’d rather have a President with that kind of fault than someone like Clinton who’s routine and systematic denial of constitutional rights to his female accusers (threatening their lives and livelihoods, lying under oath, obstructing justice, instructing others to obstruct justice) shamed the office of President.

As for the WMD myth, the U. of Bagdhad received exactly the same materials we sent to dozens of university labs around the world. Anthrax spores (that have to go through more than 500 separate processes to be weaponized) are extraordinarily useful in the development of pharmacueticals. To say we gave WMD to Saddam is simply a lie – one that any American with a third grade education could find out if they tried.

Your disrespect for someone who even liberal historians are starting to say was one of the more consequential figures of the 20th Century is typical of the anti-intellectual left. The shallowness of your arguments and intellect is on display for all to see.

Wow, I got all het up to say something here and Rick beats this fool down…..Rick rocks..

The Patriot doesn’t seem to know his histowy vewy well, do he. To spit in the face all those who love and respect this truly great president, and not even get the facts right, is beyond moronic. It is pathologic.

  15. Ogre

He’s likely a Fwench Patwiot. And I’d bet quite a bit that he wasn’t even born when Renaldus Maximum took office.

  16. RottyPup

The left really *do* have a moral sickness, don’t they?

  17. Jeremy

I guess I’ll have to settle for what happened on THE VERY FIRST DAY of Ronnie being in office: The Iranian hostage crisis ended. You may now go back to worshiping your worthless democrats that have done nothing productive save for soiling the hallowedness of the “oral” office. Carter was a “great” leader too. (Rolls eyes) How many doctors quit practicing due to his tax increases? How far down the crapper did he sent the economy?

  18. The Patriot!

Funny how no one addressed my point that you sick ******** did parade his corpse around the country after he died.

I’m surprised you disgusting ***** did not attempt to do the same with Terri Schiavo. Then again, you used her more than enough before she passed.
