Oriana Fallaci is 75 years old, a renowned Italian journalist, who lives in hiding because of death threats she received after the publication in 2001 of her book The Rage and the Pride….is dying of cancer, and now, thanks to the religion of peace, she is going to go on trial for “defaming Islam.â€
The trial will need to employ a battery of historians: several of Fallaci’s offending eighteen statements are simply assertions of historical fact. If they were false, Smith might have a case, although he would do better in a free society to provide documentation of their falsehood than to run to the courts to silence Fallaci. Of course, Islamic groups in the West have not hesitated to object to true characterizations of Islam when they find them inconvenient: last March the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) waged a successful campaign to have National Review remove from sale by its book service a “virulently Islamophobic†book, The Life and Religion of Mohammed by J. L. Menezes. CAIR objected to the book’s unfavorable depiction of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad as a licentious and bloodthirsty warrior. However, during the entire campaign CAIR wisely never asserted that anything the book said was actually false — and it wasn’t.[1] The point of their campaign, like Smith’s, may have been to silence voices that dare to point out the role that Islam has played in the rise of modern-day global terrorism. But Smith has gone beyond CAIR in claiming that Fallaci is “distorting real historical facts and inventing others,†and “lying.†One good result of her trial would be the establishment in court that Fallaci was telling the truth all along.

CAIR’s claims of wronging Muslims (in print, for God’s sake) are nothing short of attempts to eliminate freedom of the press. The power of CAIR is growing. Look at what they’ve managed to do in the name of civil rights. Meanwhile, they hold fundraising banquets and support the likes of Ahmed Abu Ali (accused of conspiracy to commit terrorism) and Al-Timimi (convicted of treason). CAIR also effectively took on Fox’s “24″ and forced the network to softpedal their story line about terrorists.
Oriana Fallaci is a warrior against Islam and a truth-teller. She isn’t “defaming Islam.” Islam defames itself! I just hope that the reality of the religion of hate comes out if Fallaci goes to trial.
Everyone should take the time to read Fallaci’s book “The Rage [Anger] and the Pride.” She translated the book herself because she didn’t trust editors to be accurate. What message does Fallaci’s precaution send? Censorship is afoot, and CAIR is one of the big players. Yet none of the msm seem willing to take on CAIR, and the organization operates openly in our nation’s capital.

Agreed. The more I learn about what’s going on with our internal appeasement of these people (including the Whitehouse), it just seems like they’ve already successfully made us into Dhimmis and forced us to apologize for characterizing Islamists as what they are: Islamists. Political correctness is going to get people killed eventually. It’s exactly what it’s like under Sharia law-you’re not allowed to criticize Islam. The punishment for criticizing Islam is a fatwa, or getting your hands and/or feet cut off, or stoning to death, or getting hanged. Rushdie has been facing a death sentence (for his book Satanic Verses), just like Hirsi Ali (for writing Theo Van Gogh’s movie, Submission)! We’ve gotta wake up! I think it took CAIR something like 3 months to apologize for 9/11, they don’t do any apologizing for suicide bombings, raising their kids for jihad, hating jews, saying things like “bring peace to Palestine–kill more jews!”, celebrating the deaths of innocents like Tali Hatual and her four children (not to mention the extra bullets pumped into her pregnant belly to make sure her unborn child didn’t survive), demanding more land on the west bank for the “Palestinian people” when there ARE no Palestinian people…makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with people! Ahhhh….So many books to read, so little time! Her book is going on my wish list.
