Fellow Republicans:
News clips and upcoming event information:
DAILY HERALD
- DIERSEN HEADLINE: More evidence that the Daily Herald is no more than an arm of the Democrat Party — it reports big time on what Foster and Giannoulis said at the Kane County Democrat annual fundraiser while it still has not reported anything about what Mark Kirk, Jason Plummer, and others said at the Milton Township Republican annual fundraiser. 1
- FRONT PAGE WITH COLOR PHOTO IN DUPAGE EDITION: Schillerstrom discusses failed bid for governor, the campaign, his future – Jake Griffin 2
(DIERSEN: Sadly, again, a Republican uses an arm of the Democrat Party, in this case, the Daily Herald, to communicate with Republicans.)
(DIERSEN: Schillerstrom answered the following Daily Herald questions: Q. So, will we have you to kick around again? Q. Did you enjoy your run for governor? Q. What went wrong with the governor’s race? Q. How did all those candidates affect your campaign? Q. How did there get to be so many DuPage Republicans in that race? Q. Like your former chief of staff (Kathy Selcke) joining Dillard’s campaign? Q. Can Republican nominee Bill Brady defeat Gov. Pat Quinn in November? Q. What about Judy Biggert’s seat in Congress? Q. What about Naperville mayor if George Pradel doesn’t run again? That’s a fairly high-profile job. Q. What did you think about the nastiness in the Republican race to replace you?)
- FRONT PAGE: Ethics tussle prompts re-examination of reform fight – John Patterson 3
- Fair Map Amendment: Voters, this is your chance to fight corruption – Editorial 4
(DIERSEN: Because the Daily Herald has made it clear that it exists to elect and Democrats and to reelect Democrats, if it supports the Fair Map Amendment, the amendment must help elect Democrats and reelect Democrats.)
- Don’t let state scare towns into gambling – Beth Paschall, Anti-Gambling Task Force, Northern Illinois Conference, United Methodist Church 5
- DuPage Co. fights obesity – Robert McCoppin 6
(DIERSEN: Democrats always argue that Democrats are “poor” and that Republicans are “rich.” If you are “poor,” you have less money to spend on food. If you are “rich,” you have more money to spend on food. What percent of obese people in DuPage are Democrats and what percent are Republicans?)
- Wheaton: Report coyote sightings online In order to track the activity of coyotes in Wheaton’s residential areas, the city’s Web site has a new section for residents to report coyote sightings. Anyone seeing a coyote in Wheaton, can visit wheaton.il.us/coyote and fill in the requested information. The Web site form shouldn’t be used to report emergency situations. In those instances, call 911. For more information about coyotes, see the coyote information section on the city’s Web site. 7
(DIERSEN: WHAT WILL THOSE WHO PROMOTE COYOTE RIGHTS OVER HUMAN RIGHTS SAY ABOUT THIS? HOW SOON WILL WE SEE COYOTE PROMOTERS ATTACKING HUMANS?)
(DIERSEN: Tragically, far too many Illinois Republican precinct committeemen, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, contributors, etc. follow in George Ryan’s and Scott Fawell’s footsteps and want to be viewed as being bullies.)
CHICAGO TRIBUNE
- Crooked politicians are entitled to 0 Illinois politicians like Govs. George Ryan and Otto Kerner Jr. didn’t deserve pensions – Mike Lawrence 9
(DIERSEN: If Mike Lawrence would attend DuPage County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC) and Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) meetings and events. He would see how conservatives, like me, are ostracized. Those who dominate the DCRCC and MTRCC blame conservatives, that is, platform Republicans, that is, the base of the DCRCC and the MTRCC for all of George Ryan’s problems, for all of Scott Fawell’s problems, for all of Jim Ryan’s problems, for all of Judy Baar Topinka’s problems, and for all problems, for that matter.)
(DIERSEN: Of course, Democrats and RINOs blame joblessness on conservatives, that is, on platform Republicans, that is, on the base of the Republican Party.)
SUBURBAN CHICAGO NEWS
- DIERSEN HEADLINE: More evidence that the Suburban Chicago News is no more than an arm of the Democrat Party — it reports big time on what Foster and Giannoulis said at the Kane County Democrat annual fundraiser while it still has not reported what Mark Kirk, Jason Plummer, and others said at the Milton Township Republican annual fundraiser. 11
- Roll call: Grading your elected officials – Richard G. Thomas 12
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
(DIERSEN: Needless-to-say, no matter what, Republicans should never vote for a tax increase. As everyone knows, immediately after any tax increase, Democrats would reverse any “cuts” that they might have made.)
- Unemployment benefits for many expire today Lone senator blocking extension – David Roeder (DIERSEN: Of course, Democrats and RINOs blame joblessness on conservatives, that is, on platform Republicans, that is, on the base of the Republican Party.) 14
- How D.C. stuck us with the wrong incentives – Terry Savage 15
- 1 mil. lottery buys a dream — ‘to work for myself’ – Chelsia Marcius 16
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “I’ve spent so many years working for somebody else,” the 50-year-old Grand Crossing resident said. “Now I get to work for myself. It’s a big difference.” Hicks started his career at McDonald’s and worked his way up. He earned a position as general manager and was a Ray Kroc Award recipient in 2002. “I’ve always wanted my own franchise,” he said. And a sports car. That was his first purchase: a red Corvette.)
NBC5
(DIERSEN: There is nothing stopping those who have money to burn from simply voluntarily giving that money to the State of Illinois. If fact, if you gave ALL your money to the State of Illinois, you could then go on welfare and live happily the rest of your life.)
CBS2
- OF COURSE, THIS IS PURE POISON: State Budget Mess Puts Poison Center In Jeopardy Illinois’ Only Poison Hotline Has Lost $1 Million In State Funds, Could Lose More – Dana Kozlov 18
BLOOMINGTON PANTAGRAPH
(DIERSEN: Does Farrakhan understand that every time he demonizes and denigrates Whites, they go out and buy more and more and more firearms and ammunition to defend themselves?)
CHAMPION NEWS
- GOP county conventions shaping up like the Florida mess of 2000 – Where are the Leaders? – Doug Ibendahl 20
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As Republicans get ready to meet Wednesday night in 102 county seats for the biennial county party conventions, a big problem is front and center that has the potential to do lasting damage to our party statewide. State Chairman Pat Brady issued the same instructions on voting vacant precincts that his scandal plagued predecessor Andy McKenna did four years ago. Brady, just like McKenna, has told County Chairmen to cast the votes from the vacant precincts themselves during the elections for the State Central Committeemen Wednesday night. Here’s what’s shaping up. There is one group of County Chairmen that is ready to thumb their noses at the Precinct Committeemen and the law. This group will vote their vacant precincts because Pat Brady told them to and because they want to. A second group is going to follow the law. They have pledged not to vote the vacant precincts in their counties no matter what (three cheers for this group). Finally, there is a third group, and it might be the largest. This group doesn’t want to vote vacant precincts. These Chairmen know it’s not right. But they fear if they don’t, they’ll be unilaterally disarming and some other county’s Chairman will capitalize.)

- BEYOND TRAGIC: AS THE DEMOCRAT PARTY’S STRANGLEHOLD ON AMERICA TIGHTENS: American reliance on government at all-time high – Patrice Hill 29
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The so-called “Great Recession” has left Americans depending on the government dole like never before. Without record levels of welfare, unemployment and other government benefits as well as tax cuts last year, the income of U.S. households would have plunged by an astonishing $723 billion – more than four times the record $167 billion drop reported last month by the Commerce Department. Moreover, for the first time since the Great Depression, Americans took more aid from the government than they paid in taxes.)
NEWSWEEK
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Current economic hardships have had what is called in constitutional law a “disparate impact”: The crisis has not afflicted everyone equally. Although women are a majority of the workforce, perhaps as many as 80 percent of jobs lost were held by men. This injury to men is particularly unfortunate because it may exacerbate, and be exacerbated by, a culture of immaturity among the many young men who are reluctant to grow up. Increasingly, they are defecting from the meritocracy. Women now receive almost 58 percent of bachelor’s degrees. This is why many colleges admit men with qualifications inferior to those of women applicants – which is one reason men have higher dropout rates. The Pew Research Center reports that 28 percent of wives between ages 30 and 44 have more education than their husbands, whereas only 19 percent of husbands in the same age group have more education than their wives. Twenty-three percent of men with some college education earn less than their wives. In law, medical, and doctoral programs, women are majorities or, if trends continue, will be. In 1956, the median age of men marrying was 22.5. But between 1980 and 2004, the percentage of men reaching age 40 without marrying increased from 6 to 16.5. A recent study found that 55 percent of men 18 to 24 are living in their parents’ homes, as are 13 percent of men 25 to 34, compared to 8 percent of women. Mike Stivic, a.k.a. Meathead, the liberal graduate student in All in the Family, reflected society’s belief in the cultural superiority of youth, but he was a leading indicator of something else: He lived in his father-in-law Archie Bunker’s home. What are today’s “basement boys” doing down there? Perhaps watching Friends and Seinfeld reruns about a culture of extended youth utterly unlike the world of young adults in previous generations.)

– DuPage County Republican Precinct Committeemen to elect their party chairman, secretary, and state central committee members by weighted vote on Wednesday, March 3 – Dave Diersen
http://www.gopillinois.com
On February 8, 2010, GOPUSA ILLINOIS urged DuPage County Republican Party Chairman candidate Dan Cronin to take the following actions:
– Schedule a major DuPage County Republican unity event as soon as the gubernatorial primary election issue is resolved.
– Immediately post on the DuPage County Republican Central Committee’s (DCRCC) website a) the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform; b) DCRCC’s by-laws (now posted in searchable PDF format on the www.gopillinois.com Files page); c) information, including hyperlinks to campaign websites, for all Republican candidates who will be on November 2, 2010 ballots in DuPage County; d) the names of the Chairs and members of all DCRCC committees; e) etc.
– Publish the names of those he wants to serve as the IRP State Central Committee (SCC) members for each of DuPage County’s three congressional districts, DCRCC Secretary, DCRCC Vice Chairman, DCRCC Treasurer, DCRCC Chairwoman, DCRCC Committee Chairs, DCRCC Committee Chair members, and DCRCC employees.
– Invite all precinct committeemen and elected officials to attend monthly DCRCC Executive Committee (EC) meetings, post the agenda for the meetings well in advance of the meetings, include an open comment period in each of the meetings, and limit items discussed in executive session to only those items traditionally discussed in executive sessions. According to Article V, Section 5 of DCRCC’s by-laws, those invitees who “can contribute to the ideals and welfare of the Organization” can attend monthly county party meetings as “observers.”
– Send out an email on the first of each month to all DuPage County Republican precinct committeemen and elected officials that a) summaries the minutes of the DCRCC EC meeting during the month just ended, b) lists DCRCC’s accomplishments during the month just ended, c) lists what DCRCC will do during the month ahead, d) reports on township party meetings held during the month just ended, e) lists the schedule of township party meetings for the month ahead, f) provides hyperlinks to major articles posted during the month just ended that directly impact DuPage County, g) lists funds raised and money spent during the month just ended, h) summaries the DCRCC Chairman’s report on the Republican County Chairmen’s Association meeting during the month just ended, i) summaries reports from the three IRP SCC members that represent DuPage County, j) etc.
– Provide DuPage County Republicans with information on the party’s financial condition. According to the Illinois State Board of Elections, during the last 6 months of 2009, the party raised $49,226.36 (including $375 from Diersen), borrowed $25,000.00, and spent $93,550.96. It began the period with $70,718.28 on hand and ended with $51,393.68.
– Report on efforts by individual township parties and their success in a) having an active elected precinct committeeman in each of their precincts, b) maximizing Republican turnout for each election, c) maximizing attendance a monthly township meetings, d) having the best possible election headquarters, e) etc.
– Announce when and where the first “annual coffee” for DuPage County “Constitution Club” members will be held.
– Per Article V, Section 8 of DCRCC’s by-laws, appoint and establish an Advisory Committee that would suggest ways to reach out to DuPage County conservatives, that is, to DuPage County platform Republicans, that is, to the base of the DuPage County Republican Party.
– Propose that the DCRCC adopt a resolution similar to, if not stronger than, the one that the RNC recently adopted — “RESOLVED, that the Republican National Committee urges that no support, financial or otherwise, be given to candidates who clearly do not support the core principles and positions of the Republican Party as expressed in the Platform of the Republican Party.”
– Make it clear that he will not appoint or reappoint anyone to any DCRCC position who a) endorses Democrats, b) gives money to Democrats, c) accepts money from Democrats, or d) demonizes or denigrates conservatives.
– Go back to supporting SB600 like State Senator and 14th Congressional District candidate Randy Hultgren did.
– Respond to the aforesaid suggestions at TAPROOT’s February 20 breakfast meeting, or sooner, if possible.
