Fellow Republicans:

News clips and upcoming event information:

CBS

(DIERSEN: It seems that Democrats and RINOs have not yet figured out a way to blame Republicans for coyotes. But I am sure that they will.)

DAILY HERALD

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Election officials across the state are scheduled to finish counting absentee and provisional ballots today, offering an unofficial tally that could foreshadow who will be the Republican nominee for governor. At last count, Bloomington Republican State Sen. Bill Brady unofficially topped fellow state Sen. Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale by roughly 420 votes. That total did not include absentee or unconfirmed provisional votes, however, which county clerks across Illinois are expected to finish tabulating today. Both campaigns said that they would have staff and volunteers collecting the latest numbers from across the state today as they ponder their next moves.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Several prominent African-Americans on the panel that will pick a replacement lieutenant governor nominee are criticizing House Speaker Michael Madigan as “authoritarian” for trying to do away with the office. The letter from the Democratic State Central Committee members also seeks from Madigan, who is the state Democratic chairman, a “uniform, comprehensive and transparent criteria” for selecting a successor to Scott Lee Cohen, the embattled winner of the Feb. 2 Democratic lieutenant governor primary who is dropping out. Among those signing today’s letter are the state central committeemen and committeewomen representing the state’s 1st, 2nd, and 7th Congressional Districts, including Democratic U.S. Reps. Bobby Rush, Jesse Jackson Jr. and Danny Davis, all of Chicago. The letter writers represent seven of the 38 committee members who will select Cohen’s replacement and they are a large voting bloc in the selection process. The letter acknowledges Madigan’s right to propose a state Constitutional amendment to eliminate the lieutenant governor’s office in 2015 as a member of the legislature. At the same time, the committee members said, “advancing legislation that impacts the Democratic Party without a discussion or an endorsement from the Democratic Party leadership is premature.”)

ABC7

(DIERSEN: Needless-to-say, one of the best selling points of your home can the voting history of the precinct, school district, municipality, township, county, state house district, state senate district, congressional district, and state it is located in. The higher the percentage of registered voters who cast Republican ballots in primary elections and who vote for Republicans instead of RINOs in general elections, the better.)

SUBURBAN LIFE

DAILY ILLINI

(DIERSEN: The strength of America’s automotive industry is extremely important to America’s national security. As the strength of America’s automotive industry weakens, attending the auto show gets more and more painful. Yesterday, I endured 2 hours at the auto show. In 1964, when I was a junior in high school, I bought my first car, a 1958 Chevy, with money that I had saved doing yard work. I 1966, when I was a senior in high school, I bought my first new car, a 1966 Pontiac Tempest Sprint, with money that I had saved washing dishes in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights. In 1967, when I was a freshman in college, I bought a new 1968 Oldsmobile 442 with money I had saved building railroad cars, pumping gasoline, and delivering mail. In 1968, when I was a sophomore in college, I bought a new 1969 Dodge Charger SE with money that I saved delivering mail.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A friend of mine – let’s call him Jeff – got a full ride scholarship to Illinois for being smart. His parents, rewarding him for his hard work, want to buy him a car since they don’t have to pay for his tuition. He could choose any car he wanted, but he had to follow one simple rule: stay under the $50,000 mark. Shamefully, the spoiled brat isn’t as much of a car person as I am. He had no idea what he wanted. So last weekend, Jeff, my two roommates and I drove up north to the city for the 102nd Chicago Auto Show. It was our mission to find the perfect car for Jeff. A $50,000 max price range really opens up choices in the automobile market.)

REPUBLICANS FOR FAIR MEDIA

(THE ARTICLE: Isn’t it great? The left-leaning Rich Miller of Capitol Fax cares so much about Illinois Republican state Sen. Bill Brady’s gubernatorial campaign, Miller gave Brady advice on how to win in the general election, using something called a “second language.” See Southtown Star article by Miller: Brady needs to learn a second language: http://www.southtownstar.com/news/miller/2048025,021510miller.article Even more special is the fact Miller had two of his interns “scour” Sen. Brady’s voting record to find the things Miller likes and what he doesn’t.

I don’t have any interns, but I’d like to ask Mr. Miller how he works that out, as well as receiving hundreds of dollars per year from numerous Illinois legislators who receive his super-duper, “by subscription only” reports on Illinois politics. It must be nice. It’s evident Miller’s a good businessman. I’ll give him that, even though the further you read down Miller’s Southtown Star column, the more convoluted his piece gets.

But let’s get back to the point of Miller’s column. In essence, Miller was saying Brady’s voting record was far too conservative for Illinois voters. I suppose Mr. Miller forgot about then-state Sen. Peter Fitzgerald–who was just as conservative as Brady–who defeated incumbent Carol Moseley Braun in 1998 for the United States Senate. But all because Miller authors Capitol Fax that doesn’t mean facts like this should get in the way of his argument. You see, something’s are all in a name.

So, let’s look at some of the votes Miller doesn’t like which were found by Miller’s “interns.” Gosh, I sure like that intern thing, but I digress.

“Sen. Brady is 100 percent pro-life.” Oh, my goodness! Brady actually believes life begins at conception and the innocent unborn should be protected in their mother’s womb? How dare he?

Miller also wrote, “Brady sponsored legislation that allowed pharmacists to refuse to dispense emergency contraception based on their religious beliefs.” Wow, that’s out there, too, ain’t it? I suppose Miller would want Catholic pharmacists to go against their faith by dispensing contraceptives, according to this advice he is passing along to Sen. Brady. Again, interesting.

Miller’s “interns” found that Brady, “sponsored legislation to ban the use of state funds for stem cell research.” Oh my! I think Mr. Miller’s “interns” left out the word “embryonic” in that sentence. But maybe they don’t know the difference because they’re only “interns”. Plus, by now, the Capitol Fax guru must know the use of embryonic stem cells in medical research is not necessary because it has been proven adult stem cells work just as well. Finally, why should the state pay for any of this research when private companies, including big Pharma (which Mr. Barack Obama has cut numerous deals with) can afford it.

Brady “voted against the statewide smoking ban,” again, according to the diligent research conducted by Miller’s minions. Excuse me, but isn’t smoking still legal? The full blown nanny state isn’t here yet, Mr. Miller.

There’s more, but here’s the topper. Bill Brady is against homosexual marriage and civil unions. Hmmm. This should disqualify Brady for political office automatically, according to Mr. Miller’s political playbook.

In conclusion, while perusing the things Miller doesn’t like about Brady’s legislative voting record, I felt all the better about the state Senator from Bloomington. Brady, the presumptive winner in the Illinois GOP gubernatorial primary, should stick to his guns and put Mr. Miller’s advice in the garbage along with today’s newspaper. Hey, that’s where Miller’s column is. . .in today’s paper. What a coincidence.

Here’s some advice from me to Sen. Brady. Don’t take any advice from Rich Miller, if you want to become the next governor of Illinois.

And here’s my advice to Rich Miller. Give your thoughts for political success to Democratic Governor Pat Quinn. You and Quinn speak the same language. . .For English, press 1.

LOS ANGELES TIMES

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Reporting from Washington – First there was the “tea party” protester. Now meet the Tea-publican. Conservative activists who once protested the political establishment are now flooding the lowest level of the Republican Party apparatus hoping to take over the party they once scorned — one precinct at a time. Across the country, tea party groups that had focused on planning rallies are educating members on how to run for GOP precinct representative positions. The representatives help elect county party leaders, who write the platform and, in some places, determine endorsements. “That’s where it all starts. That’s where the process of picking candidates begins. It’s not from [GOP leader] Michael Steele’s office down. It’s from the ground up,” said Philip Glass, whose National Precinct Alliance is among the groups advocating the strategy. “The party is over for the old guard.” . . . Glass’ group and others say their work is nonpartisan; their hope is that people will reshape both major political parties. But for most of the small-government conservatives of the tea party movement, the Republican Party is a more natural fit. The shift to local party politics is a notable turn for the group, which emerged in opposition to national financial bailouts supported by both parties. But protesting has its limits, said Darla Dawald, national director for a conservative social networking site, ResistNet.com, that is directing people to local party contacts. The protests were a way to “catapult people off their couches. But then we needed to give them something to do, a way to get engaged.” Dawald took a look at her own precincts in Arizona’s Pinal County. She said only 40% of precinct committee positions were filled. In Maricopa County, home to Phoenix, only 30% of the positions were occupied, she said. Dawald, who owned a gift shop that had closed in the recession, said it looked to her like no one was minding the store. “It’s not like we’re going in and replacing people. We’re going into positions that are open, things nobody is doing,” she said. “It was clear that a small group of people within the party were making decisions for everyone.”)
