CHICAGO GOP
(DIERSEN QUESTION: Which 14th Congressional District SCC candidate do Combine members and other anti-conservatives want to win?)
(THE ARTICLE: As Republicans, we must all express our views for the good of our Party and for Illinois. We are equally obligated to voice concerns and to hear members out. This includes the direction of our Party leadership and the individuals we select to make critical decisions – some of which will last for many years to come in our future.
It is fair for me to insure our leadership now understand that the stakes this year, including with Hispanics, could not be higher. As we continue to work in unison for our Party to garner as many general election votes as possible, it is imperative we not in one false stroke undo much of our previous good work.
In one of the more illustrative examples of how our Party message exhibits a uncoupling from responsible Hispanics, Gabriela Wyatt is being lauded in some circles as a great Hispanic organizer. As a Hispanic, I am sorry to report that nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, quite the opposite. Her Republican meetings garner, at best, 3 or 4 Hispanics in Aurora – elsewhere, there are no Hispanics in attendance what so ever. I encourage you all to inquire as to the veracity of my statement here. But, why is this so? Specifically, I cite Gabriela’s lack of judgment and proclivity for irrational strategies, some of which have had terrible repercussions for our Party. Here is just one example: the fielding a known gang-banger in Aurora township. I am attaching a report of the Beacon News relative to her strategy for an Hispanic Republican candidate. Please also look at the Illinois Review report, linked below. The reports in area Hispanic newspapers were just as memorable – and disturbing. Like Americans everywhere, Hispanic Americans detest gang activity and the thugs that perpetrate the corruption of youth in our neighborhoods. One can only imagine the years of embarrassment, and damage to our image, had her candidate prevailed. According to many reports, Luna was involved in an unsolved gang-style murder and has lingering questions to answer – - – which he refuses to answer: here
This was known prior to being fielded by Gabriela Wyatt (if not, why not?). Instead, as the article cites, her Republican support of Mr. Luna was steadfast.
As a GOP State Central Committeeman for the 14th, sound judgment from Gabriela would be enormously critical, else the wrong individuals will certainly get appointed to represent us. I simply do not believe her to have the capacity required of the post. I hasten to add I would be negligent in not sharing my reservations with you.
I ask for those who are now undertaking the decision on the 14th to contemplate our Party direction. Choose based on your best instincts. Choose based on all facts before you and, I suggest, a better decision than Gabriela Wyatt in a post of such great responsibility for the future of our great Party. As a Republican, I thank you for hearing me out. Robert Enriquez, Aurora, IL)

(DIERSEN: Without knowing the official number of Republican ballots cast in the February 2, 2010 Illinois primary election broken out by congressional district, Illinois Republican Party State Central Committee members cannot be elected. Therefore, until the Illinois State Board of Elections provides that information, the Republican County conventions should be postponed.)
(THE ARTICLE: I have closely followed Illinois primary elections since 1964 and once served as Republican Co-Chair of the Illinois Election Laws Study Commission (1977-1983). I helped to write the legislation that created the Illinois State Board of Elections in 1972. With the notable exception of the long Orange paper ballot for the at large House election in 1964, I have never seen either official statewide vote counts or unofficial news accounts of any Illinois primary come in as slowly as the as yet unannounced and unconfirmed totals from the Feb. 2, 2010 primary.
If the vote totals for the GOP gubernatorial nomination below look familiar, they should. They have been frozen in place by Associated Press since late on the afternoon of Feb. 3, 24 days ago. Of course AP figures are NOT official in any way, but contrary to some stories, news organizations in Illinois from their own resources have not been able to confirm any actual change in the Feb. 3 margin of 420 votes between Sen. Brady and Sen. Dillard.
Brady 155,327 20.3%
Dillard 154,907 20.2%
McKenna 147,599 19.3%
Ryan 130,400 17.0%
Andrzejewski 110,735 14.5%
Proft 59,178 7.7%
Schillerstrom 7,388 1.0%Every other report has been based on rumor in a blog or newspaper with no exact citation as to source. Thus some reports circulated citing the Dillard campaign as a source that Dillard had gained less than 50 net votes in a final canvass in DuPage County or two votes in Chicago and some votes in Lake County but no news organization bothered to verify the claims or incorporate the adjusted canvass totals into a statewide count. Last Tuesday, Feb. 23 was supposed to be the magic day when all counties would report final totals to the Illinois State Board of Elections and yet their web site on Feb. 27 remained silent on final official figures.
Last week Chicago Sun-Times columnist Mark Brown admitted in his column that reporters did not know the true numbers because AP did not total them even at the unofficial level for a canvass after 100 percent of the precincts had reported statewide. Brown and I engaged in a courteous exchange of emails in which I posed questions about why the AP vote count was so slow in dramatic contrast to previous years. The honest answer, which Brown only partially admitted to me, was that Chicago news media did not devote financial resources to having stringers cover every county clerk canvass because it would be too expensive and from their point of view because they are not as interested in a GOP primary result as they are in a Democratic primary result. I raised the point that if the margin between Pat Quinn and Dan Hynes were nearly as close as the margin between Brady and Dillard, you can bet your bottom dollar that reporters would have been camped out at the door of every county clerk in Illinois until the final canvass results were known and tabulated. Mark Brown did not concede that specific point of mine but he did admit that a November election contest that close would of course be treated very differently by news organizations in terms of intense daily coverage. Taking all of the anecdotal reports of Dillard campaign numbers about adjusted canvass totals into account, the order of magnitude of change still does not approach anything close to a net gain for Dillard that would reduce the Brady margin to even 270 votes, let alone to the 100-vote margin that Dillard said might trigger his pursuit of a very expensive statewide recount.
So what’s up with the ultra-slow Illinois Associated Press bureau? Probably a lack of money. And what’s the story with the very slow reported official count from with the country clerks and the Illinois State Board of Elections? The culprit there might also be snow storm delays, a lack of overtime money and a lack of urgent interest. The attitude seems to be, after all, its only the GOP nomination, so who in the press or clerk offices really cares that much when a final report comes in? Regardless of the cause, Illinois news organizations have not exactly covered themselves with glory on their spotty coverage of this story. The recession has affected their ability to work also. Let’s hope they can do a better job in the fall.)

TAPROOT REPUBLICANS OF ILLINOIS
BLOOMINGTON PANTAGRAPH
(DIERSEN: What is “Washington?” Ultimately, “Washington” is those who pay federal income taxes. Democrats always shout that Democrats always have been, are now, and always will be “poor” and that Republicans always have been, are now, and always will be “rich.” Because only the “rich” pay federal income taxes, if “help with Illinois’ budget” is coming from “Washington,” it is coming from Republicans.)

(DIERSEN: Obviously, outrageously, tragically, disgustingly, Jim Thompson and others who dominate the Illinois Republican Party (IRP), the DuPage County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC), the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC), etc., vehemently disagree with Lawrence. They blame conservatives, that is, platform Republicans, that is, the base of the IRP, the base of the DCRCC, the base of the MTRCC, etc. for all of George Ryan’s problems, for all of Scott Fawell’s problems, and for all problems for that matter.)
(DIERSEN: I would not be surprised if Democrats and RINOs urge Quinn to a) dramatically increase taxes on everyone who earns more money than they do, b) increase efforts to drive conservatives out of the state, c) do more to promote dependency on government, Marxism, socialism, communism, totalitarianism, etc., d) do more to promote illegal immigration, e) do more to promote promiscuity, prostitution, abortion, homosexual activity, depravity, etc., f) do more to promote gambling, corruption, etc., g) confiscate all firearms, h) dramatically increase welfare benefits, i) etc.)

(DIERSEN: I have never been a drinker or a smoker. While I worked for GAO in its Chicago office 1980-1997, many of my liberal Democrat superiors were heavy drinkers and/or heavy smokers — I am sure that they would say: “I think it’s important for my subordinates to be drinkers and smokers — I need some to drink and smoke with.” Neither me, my wife, nor our parents have ever owned a dog nor have we been owned by a dog. While I worked for the Park Forest Post Office 1966-1969, sadly, I saw many many many dogs that were grossly neglected if not abused by their owners.)

SUBURBAN CHICAGO NEWS
- Not too late to reform GOP before November elections – Chris Lauzen, Aurora, Senator, 25th Legislative District 26
(THE LETTER: I deeply appreciate the landslide support that voters in the Republican primary provided for me and our volunteers. It is a privilege to work for you, and I will do my best for you and your family.
The people I serve just want honest competence from their government. I have learned that constituents will forgive me for making mistakes as long as I learn from them, and if they can trust that I won’t lie to them and won’t steal from them.
Voters reject “profiteering by politicians” and dishonest incompetence. The clear message, at least in our Republican primary, was:
- Tell people the truth.
- Serve constituents, not the powerful political potentates.
- Shrink government and restore our pride in traditional American values — enough with the apologies and bowing to foreign dignitaries.
- Bring our jobs back — we must get back to work.
- Do our work, as government leaders, out in the open through persuasion; stop the behind-the-scenes manipulation and coercion.
I call for an upheaval and reformation of the Republican Party based upon the clear message from our voters. Actions that can be taken immediately include:
- Return the power of directly voting for party leadership to “the People.”
- Anyone, at any level of government, who is found enriching himself, his family or friends beyond his statutory pay should immediately be fired and prosecuted. Zero tolerance for self-serving corruption is our standard.
- As soon as the winner of the Republican governor nomination is identified, Pat Brady, the Illinois Republican chairman, should resign for interfering and taking sides in this Republican primary and for doing nothing to effectively stop his predecessor from spending $5 million to attack his opponents (after having promised to monitor and enforce clean campaigning standards).
- The Kane County Republican chairman should resign so that we can credibly begin the work of reconstructing a reformed Republican-led coalition of Republicans, independents and disillusioned Reagan Democrats. “Less Government, More Individual Freedom” will be our objective and slogan.
- The current Aurora Republican chairman is already stepping down. The new elected chairman should work hard to rally the reform coalition around recruiting and supporting candidates who will practice honest competence.
- Denny Hastert should return to the U.S. Treasury the $500,000 per year that he is receiving, as former Speaker of the House, to employ three staff members whom he pays over $100,000 per year each and $6,300 per month rent, and a taxpayer-paid SUV for his use — all while he lobbies for foreign governments and private interests. If we, the People, don’t voice our criticism, these wasteful abuses of power will continue.
Republican voters have spoken. We need to conduct a thorough scrubbing of our Republican Party procedures and behavior in order to maximize our appeal to all voters in the November general election, and to fulfill our campaign commitments in actual public service.)
