Zazi makes plea bargain; confessed to being trained by Al Qaeda in Pakistan; for multiple bombings in New York

As per the New York Daily News (“They want us dead: Zazi’s chilling terror admissions show the dangers we face”) and multiple others.

Many great thanks to the NYPD, the FBI, the Joint Counterterrorism Task Force and all the invisible operatives who zeroed in on Zazi by means unknown and prevented disaster.

Because the prospect of disaster was terrifyingly real. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder got it right in saying lives were saved due to the vigilance of intelligence and law enforcement agencies.

New York
has now been the target of at least 10 terror plots since 9/11. They have included plans to bring down the Brooklyn Bridge, flood Hudson River tunnels, blow up the Herald Square subway station, attack Bronx synagogues and bomb Long Island Rail Road trains at Christmas.

Time and again, the overwhelming response has been to minimize the threat. The plotters have been dismissed as isolated bumblers lacking resources to carry their demented schemes through.

This was never true, and Zazi’s case history should quiet this delusional pooh-poohing.

Naturally, leftists are touting Holder and the Obama administration with snooty superiority as if they knew this approach would work all along (instead of waterboarding). (Jim Arkedis at the Huffpo-”Progressives Should Slam Conservatives with Zazi Case”) But the point is – this idiot is getting a soapbox to spew his stupidity, such as this priceless pearl of wisdom: “I would sacrifice myself to bring attention to what the United States military was doing to civilians in Afghanistan by sacrificing my soul for the sake of saving other souls.”…

Yeah, because terrorists don’t wear uniforms and the minute they drop their weapons (or tape them under a coffeetable) – they become “unarmed civilians”.

And as a reminder to Holder and the rest of the incoherently stupid left: Zazi is not KSM.…as put by Bill Burck and Dana Perino at NRO:

This is all happening in the civilian court system. But the jury’s still out on whether this was the best course of action — and of course, Zazi’s guilty plea does not show that the civilian system is the best place to deal with all captured terrorists. Zazi is not Khalid Sheikh Muhammad or Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. He is a legal resident of the United States, entitled to many of the protections of a U.S. citizen, unlike KSM or Abdulmutallab; he was not caught in the act, unlike Abdulmutallab; and he was captured on U.S. soil, unlike KSM.

What we, along with many others, have called for is thoughtful application of all the federal government’s tools in the War on Terror. Sometimes this entails prioritizing intelligence-gathering over law enforcement, and sometimes it entails the use of military commissions. Blind use of the civilian system, which the Obama administration has essentially conceded happened with Abdulmutallab and with KSM’s soon-to-be-defunct civilian trial, does not further our national security.
