February 25, 2010

Fellow Republicans:

News clips and upcoming event information:

CHICAGO TRIBUNE

(DIERSEN: For 1 and 1/2 years, during 1964, 1965, and 1966, while I was a Junior and Senior at Crete-Monee High School, I washed dishes in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights. I was able save enough money from doing that job that I could buy a new car before I graduated from high school, a 1966 Pontiac Tempest Sprint, that I used to commute to classes at the University of Illinois in Chicago. My superiors and coworkers told me that I was the first White to hold the job. They told me that because the job was so bad, the minorities who held the before soon quit. I was able to endure the job’s negatives because I knew that because I was going to college, I would not be washing dishes for the rest of my life.)

SPRINGFIELD STATE JOURNAL REGISTER

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Are U.S. Rep. AARON SCHOCK, and his chief of staff, STEVEN SHEARER, trying to influence who gets on the Republican State Central Committee? And if so, why? Those questions are being asked by some Republican county chairmen in central Illinois. And some of them are asking another question as well: Is Schock preparing the way to run for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Democrat DICK DURBIN, D-Ill., in 2014? Shearer said Schock, R-Peoria, is supporting an insurgent candidate for central committee in his own district. However, Shearer said, much of the rest of the rumor mill, including the suggestion that Schock is trying to position himself to run for higher office, is “ridiculous.”)

DAILY HERALD

(DIERSEN: Sadly, in my precinct, 30 cast Democrat ballots in February 2, 2010 primary election — Cohen got the most votes (8) for Lieutenant Governor.)

(THE LETTER: Scott Lee Cohen would never have been elected except for the $2 million in ads he placed. The newspapers and TV networks, by accepting his money for ads, in fact endorsed him for office. The fourth estate {the news media} has a duty to do some due diligence: not just to just take the money first and ask questions later. My favorite Illinois newspaper’s motto is; “To fear God, tell the truth and make money.” If all the media outlets would consider using these priorities in order better candidates would come to the fore front.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Stranger than fiction: Former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a Northwestern University alum, will address Northwestern students on . . . ethics in politics . . . at 7 p.m. next Tuesday at the University’s Cahn Auditorium. Scott’s plot? Hmmm . . . So where is scandal-shrapneled Scott Lee Cohen, and what’s he doing since dropping out of the lieutenant governor’s race? Here’s some answers. He intends to “work” to recoup the $2 million he put into the race,” according to Cohen’s spokesman, Baxter Swilley. One option could be a fund-raiser. Translation? He intends to run again? “He hasn’t ruled that out,” Swilley said. “He’s been really thinking about what he’s going to do with the rest of his public life.” “He’s been thinking about how to clean up his personal life in the wake of all these media stories,” said Swilley. Translation: “He’s been cleaning up his personal life since 2005, but obviously it wasn’t enough,” Swilley said.)

(DIERSEN: Beyond outrageously, beyond unethically, beyond disgustingly, as everyone knows, more and more outrageous, unethical, and disgusting companies, organizations, and people that falsely claim to be “conservative” are doing everything they can to destroy the Republican Party by dumping the conservative social blanks in the Republican Party platform. These these companies, organizations, and people are really Libertarians or Democrats.)

  • SWEET: Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Ok.)travels to Chicago to headline a March 5 fund-raiser for the Republican National Committee at the Drake Hotel. The ticket prices range from $1,000 to $250. The host committee includes Pat Brady, the chairman of the Illinois Republican Party and a member of the RNC national committee, and other Illinois GOP leaders. One of the RNC’s fund-raising committees, the “Young Eagles” are also helping put the event together. Chicago is fertile territory for GOP fundraising. Sen. John McCain (R-Az.) visited Chicago earlier this month for a funder for Illinois GOP Senate nominee Rep. Mark Steven Kirk (R-Ill.) and to raise money for himself. McCain is in a contested GOP primary against former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Az.) Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) hits Chicago in April for a funder at the Standard Club. 16

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS

(DIERSEN: How soon will the Democrats, RINOs, Libertarians, Independents, etc. come together and solve the whole healthcare problem by imposing a $100,000 annual “special healthcare tax” on Republicans?)

DOWNERS GROVE REPORT

CHAMPION NEWS

(THE ARTICLE: In a joint statement issued today, former Republican Gubernatorial candidate Adam Andrzejewski, and Judge Don Lowery, former Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, called upon the Illinois Republican Party to simply follow Illinois law and thereby disallow the voting of vacant precincts at the upcoming GOP county conventions on March 3rd. Andrzejewski states, “In the election of Republican State Central Committee, certain County Chairmen vote their own ‘vacant precincts’ to consolidate power. This creates a strong disincentive to build our party. If County Chairmen can cast the votes of the empty precincts – why do the hard work of filling them? . . . Let’s welcome our new committeemen and respect our existing ones.” “What we need today, in advance of the March 3rd Republican Party conventions, is a ruling by Chairman Pat Brady and the Illinois Republican Party that voting the vacant precincts will no longer be permitted,” Andrzejewski continued. According to Judge Lowery, who served for 26 years on the bench of the Illinois Circuit Court, “For a county chairperson to vote vacant precincts as his/her own vote, apparently in contravention to the applicable law, would bring into legal question the validity of the election of a State Central Committeeperson elected with those invalid votes.” A vacant precinct is one not represented by an elected Republican Precinct Committeeman. The Illinois Republican Party has directed GOP County Chairmen to personally cast the weighted votes contained within these vacant precincts in the elections for the members of the Illinois Republican Party’s Central Committee. This directive has the potential to severely dilute the voice of the elected Precinct Committeemen. In the past, the practice has typically allowed incumbents to easily secure another four year term. The process to select the 19 members of the State Central Committee (one from each U.S. Congressional District) will occur immediately after each county GOP organization selects a County GOP Chairman. County conventions to choose these GOP officials will take place concurrently in the 102 county seats across Illinois on the evening of March 3rd. For more about next week’s GOP county conventions and the vacant precinct issue, see here and here.)

RASMUSSEN REPORTS

(DIERSEN: Democrats who expect to get preferred treatment from a health care system run by the Democrat Party should consider that the group that they are a member of (race, gender, age, religion, etc.) and/or they themselves individually might fall out of favor with the Democrat Party and the health care that they would get then would be as bad as the health care that Republicans and Independents would get. When a health care system is run by a political party, you can expect that if you don’t do enough to promote that party (contributions, phone banking, going door-to-door, etc.) you will be treated as badly as those who are not a member of the party.)

http://www.gopillinois.com

The Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) held its monthly meeting Wednesday evening, February 24, 2010, at its election headquarters in the Webb Dodge Building at 285 Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn.

Outgoing MTRCC Chairman Mike Formento served as master of ceremonies. Attendees included Fred Bucholz, Lori Carlson, Bob Earl, Grant Eckhoff, Chris Edwards, Sal Falbo, Beverly Fawell, Jeff Fawell, Jim Flickinger, Mike Formento, Catherine Galvin, Chris Heidorn, Gail Hinkle, Joyce Hundhausen, Marie Jensen, Ann Jorgensen, Chris Kachiroubas, Martin Keller, Patrick Kehoe Gary King, Roger Kotecki, J.R. McBride, Brian McKillip, Gary Muehlfelt, Debra Olson, Ron Smith, Fed Spitzzeri, Tim Whelan, Karen Wilson, and John Zaruba.

89 Milton Township precinct committeemen attended. Elected unopposed were Heidorn for Chairman, Carlson for Vice Chairman, and Hinkle for Secretary. Keller defeated Earl for the Treasurer position.

Sadly, the word “budget” was never mentioned during the meeting. Heidorn immediately appointed Kehoe as Chairman of the Policy Committee, Jeff Fawell as Chairman of the By-Laws Committee, Jensen as Chairman of the Ways & Means Committee, Muehlfelt as Chairman of the Unincorporated Areas Committee, and Galvin as Chairman of the Publicity and Website Committee.

Sadly, last year, Heidorn argued that MTRCC should do less rather that more to maximize Republican turnout for the February 2, 2010 election. Because he did not appoint anyone to serve as Election Headquarters Chairman and because he said MTRCC’s next meeting (April 14) will be held at the Wheaton Bowl, it appears that he is rejecting the opportunity that MTRCC has to use Webb Dodge building for free to maximize turnout for the November 2, 2010 election.

Heidorn announced that Jeff Fawell is running to serve as Secretary of the DuPage County Republican Central Committee.
