Fellow Republicans:
News clips and upcoming event information:
FOX NEWS CHICAGO
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Quinn’s Republican opponent Bill Brady, who marched in two suburban parades today, is strongly opposed to a tax increase.)
CHICAGO TRIBUNE
- BEYOND OUTRAGEOUS: Beyond politics Why Republicans should support health care reform – Ray LaHood 2
- Take away the pen Fair Map amendment takes redistricting process away from legislators – Editorial 3
- Political runners-up shouldn’t win – Eric Zorn 4
(DIERSEN: Zorn is wrong. Back in 2004, those who dominated the Illinois Republican Party State Central Committee, otherwise known as Combine members, refused to fill the Jack Ryan vacancy with Oberweis because, back then, Combine members believed they could not dominate Oberweis. Of course, from the beginning, Combine members would rather see a Democrat elected than a Republican who they cannot dominate. Now, because Oberweis has become a ferocious critic of Lauzen and because Oberweis backed Lauzen’s and Hultgren’s primary opponents, Combine members believe they can dominate Oberweis. Combine members hate Lauzen but they love Hastert.)
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican agitators have been making this very case for Turner’s candidacy in what looks to me like an effort to fan racial resentments. Turner is African-American, and in such blog posts as “Racists oppose Turner for lt. gov” at ChicagoNow.com by my occasional conservative sparring partner Dennis Byrne, the right is planting the idea that Turner is the rightful heir to Cohen’s victory. I don’t recall any of them making this “silver medalist” argument six years ago when GOP U.S. Senate candidate Jack Ryan bowed out of the race against Barack Obama. Dairy magnate Jim Oberweis of Aurora had finished second to Ryan in the primary and badly wanted to step in. Was it anti-Aurora bigotry or lactose intolerance that prompted Republican Party officials to brush off Oberweis and the other losing candidates from the primary and choose someone else to face Obama? No. As they all understood back then, it was a pure (and purely regrettable) political calculation that inspired them to go outside the primary field, indeed outside the state, to pick Maryland pepper pot Alan Keyes.)
(DIERSEN: Democrats always a) demonize and denigrate Republicans as being “rich” and b) glorify and praise Democrats as being “poor.” Rich people pay state income taxes, poor people do not. Therefore, McCarron wants the sate to “crack down” on Republicans.)
DAILY HERALD
- FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD: Mayors say cut to income tax money would devastate local budgets – Tim Magaw 6
(DIERSEN: Democrats always a) demonize and denigrate Republicans as being “rich” and b) glorify and praise Democrats as being “poor.” Rich people pay state income taxes, poor people do not. The Daily Herald lists the amount of state income tax money that various municipalities received last year.
The Daily Herald should list the amount of state income tax paid last year broken out by county, township, Chicago ward, and municipality and compare those amounts with the state income tax money that each received. The Daily Herald should list the amount of state income tax that was a) paid by Republicans last year and b) paid by Democrats last year, if any.
My understanding is that a) DuPage County is the only county Illinois in which its residents pay more in income taxes than they get back in state tax money and b) were it not for DuPage County and its taxpayers, Illinois would have gone bankrupt decades ago. What would Quinn do if Communist China offers to buy DuPage County for say $1 trillion?)
(DIERSEN: Democrats always demonize and denigrate Republicans as being “rich.” Democrats always demonize and denigrate DuPage County as being full of Republicans. Rich people have more money to spend on food. Therefore, you would expect that obesity would be a major problem in DuPage County. Your GOPUSA Illinois Editor needs to lose weight.)
- FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD WITH COLOR PICTURE: Blagojevich retrial publicity tour heads to Trump’s TV show – Ted Cox 8 E-mails say it all on censoring at Stevenson? – Russell Lissau 9
(DIERSEN: With rare exception, those who want to censure Diersen and censure his GOPUSA ILLINOIS daily emails do not put anything in writing. But, actions speak louder than words. Of course, those who want to censure me the most (and their operatives) work the hardest against me.
Those “Republicans” who want to censure me the most
-
a) are not involved in politics to elect candidates who can and will defend and advance the Illinois Republican Party platform,
b) oppose SB600,
c) are Combine members or their operatives,
d) want to be viewed as being “political thugs,”
e) work against everyone except those who pander to them or who they can dominate/manipulate,
f) promote George Ryan and the Fawells, and/or
g) have major skeletons in their closets.
Needless-to-say, people like Heidorn and his operatives should understand that the harder that they work against me, the more that they motivate me to continue sending out a GOPUSA ILLINOIS email each morning.)
SOUTHTOWN STAR
(DIERSEN: How much money does Quinn’s budget have for a) Republicans and b) Democrats? Democrats always a) demonize and denigrate Republicans as being “rich” and b) glorify and praise Democrats as being “poor.” Government takes money from the “rich” and gives that money to the “poor.” Therefore, you would expect that Quinn’s budget would have no money for Republicans.)
- Your Legislators save corrupt schools post – Phil Kadner 11
- The USDA’s recipe for sprawl in Beecher – Guy Tridgell 12
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
- 6 Illinois Dems in U.S. House not sold on health plan — yet – Lynn Sweet 13
- Ditka glad he turned down 2004 bid against Obama 14
(DIERSEN: Ditka should understand that Combine members dominate the Illinois Republican Party and that they only promote Republican candidates who they a) believe that they can dominate/manipulate or b) believe that will lose to the Democrat challenger.)
(THE ARTICLE: Mike Ditka says he has no regrets about passing up Republican Party overtures to run against Barack Obama for U.S. Senate in 2004. Da Coach said he thought about it for perhaps two days before declining. ”The hypocrisy of both parties” is what annoys him about politics, he told the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post last week at an event for the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. ”You’re not there to represent a party, a special interest. You’re there to represent America, the people that elected you. They don’t do that. I’m sorry, they don’t do it! And you can’t make all these promises when you’re a candidate, and none of them happen.”)
NBC5
- Budget Woes: Some Lawmakers Face Eviction for Unpaid Rent Some senators owe months of late rent and will be evicted if the state does not pay soon – Aixa Velez 15
- Greta Geraldo Wendy: Blago Continues Media Blitz Better Government Association: “Feds have the evidence and that’s going to trump the circus act.” – B.J. Lutz 16
(DIERSEN: Sadly, everyone knows that if Blagojevich could/would run again for governor, he would win. He would win with the votes of those who want government a) to take more and more and more money away from the “rich,” that is, from the Republicans and b) to give that money to the “poor,” that is, to the Democrats.)
CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
SPRINGFIELD STATE JOURNAL REGISTER
- Republican State Representative Jim Watson wants to change the ‘Springfield Mind’ – Bernard Schoenburg 18
- Concealed carry laws: Experts debate impact – Bruce Rushton 19
- Our Opinion: Move primary into summer – Editorial 20
- Statehouse Insider: Quinn left people want more. . .of something – Doug Finke 21
SUBURBAN CHICAGO NEWS
(DIERSEN: How you dress says more about you than anything you can say about yourself. So if you dress like you are promiscuous, like you are “crying out for attention,” or like you are mentally ill, then that is who you are.)
CHAMPION NEWS
FOX NEWS CHANNEL
(DIERSEN: Not only once, but twice, voters in Illinois elected Blagojevich. What does that say about them? Birds of a feather flock together.)
NEW YORK TIMES
- DIERSEN HEADLINE: James Warren finds an excuse to write about “often-hidden poverty around us” in DuPage Countyhttp://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/14/us/14cncwarren.html
WASHINGTON TIMES
(DIERSEN: The Republican Party platform is conservative, so if you have done something that conflicts with conservative principles, you should not run a Republican. The Democrat Party platform is liberal, so if you have done something that conflicts with conservative principles, you can run as a Democrat. Republicans promote “the rule of law” while Democrats promote “moral relativism.” If you run as Republican and you have done something that conflicts with conservative principles, sooner or later, the Democrats will use that to blackmail you and/or to defeat you.)
