Didn’t Dick Durbin say he would do something if what he said about our boys at Gitmo turned out to be false????
In his bogus “apology” Durbin used a quote by Abraham Lincoln to say that all will be well, and his words will be justified if we later learn that his allegations of torture by U.S. troops akin to those by the Nazis, Soviet Gulags and Pol Pot are verified, and if his critics are therefore proven wrong. Durbin cited Lincoln’s quote: “If the end brings me out right what is set against me won’t amount to anything.”
As a reader points out, the answer to the above question is a firm and resounding “no”. But don’t you think the American people deserve an ACTUAL apology/retraction for these nasty comments aimed at our men in uniform? Notice, too, how the media has dropped it?
Report Discredits F.B.I. Claims of Abuse at Guantánamo Bay
A high-level military investigation into complaints by F.B.I. agents about the abuse of detainees at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, concluded in a report released Wednesday that their treatment was sometimes degrading but did not qualify as inhumane or as torture.
So where is Durbin on this NOW? Ya think we’ll actually hear a retraction?

Is my brain totally fried from this heat? I don’t see anything in that quote where he says he’ll “do something” if what he said turned out to be false. Not that I don’t think he SHOULD, mind you.
So I guess we should just forget about it now that he’s been proven wrong?
Durbin promised he will continue to speak out on this issue and for 2 years has sought hearings to launch a witch hunt against U.S. Troops – delving into any allegations by Al Qaeda operatives who claim they were not treated properly.
I think he should make a public apology while we throw rotten tomatoes at him.
I’m not disagreeing with your sentiment. I’ve been emailing that clown regularly asking for either proof or a REAL apology since this story began.
I just didn’t see the connection in what you quoted him saying and the headline “Didn’t **** Durbin say he would do something if what he said about our boys at Gitmo turned out to be false????”
He might half heartily make an attempt at something that resembles an apology if enough pressure is put on him.
I gotcha. The answer to that is “no”. He didn’t. But he should. Notice how the media has dropped it and gone onto the next thing? Repulsive.
The media dropped it and went back to the Joe Wilson Comedy Hour. And here I thought summer reruns were a thing of the past.
Captain Ed has a really a couple of really good posts on the Wilson gig…lol
