Family and friends,
Terror has struck the heart of our community with two incidents of violence this past Monday and Tuesday. Nine people were shot Monday on 79th and Western at the CTA bus terminal. From the nine people that were shot, eight were males- ranging from ages 16 to 31. One of the victims was a young woman walking to the CTA bus terminal after dining with some friends and found herself caught in an ambush set by alleged gang members. The very next day a fifteen year old boy was shot in the Roseland community on the South Side.
It is these senseless acts of violence that has compelled me to run for Cook County sheriff. I will not stand idle while the innocent of our community live in fear and become victims of gang violence. As Cook County sheriff I will make sure that there aren’t any sheriff vehicles parked in driveways leaving the neighborhoods un-patrolled. I am more than committed to making Cook County the safest county in America.
Currently, as a Chicago police officer, I am aware that crime is not only a problem of the police, but also a problem of the community. We need to unite under the banner of peace and bring to justice those who seek to bring chaos, death, and destruction to our communities. I call on those who still hold fast to our traditional beliefs of life, liberty, peace, and justice to stand with me and take back our communities from the gangs and drugs that attempt to claim the lives of our loved ones. United together, victory will be ours.
