I’ve been walkin’ these streets so long
Singin’ the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway
Where hustle’s the name of the game
And nice guys get washed away like the snow and the rain
There’s been a load of compromisin’
On the road to my horizon
But I’m gonna be where the lights are shinin’ on me
Like a Rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Like a Rhinestone cowboy
Getting cards and letters from people I don’t even know
And offers comin’ over the phone
In more than just appearance, that song and Glen Campbell remind me of Terry Turner from Watching Washington who’s been trolling me and the Wide Awakes Site since January 21.
He’s really a lot like Walter Mitty, I think. Remember The Secret Life of Walter Mitty? That’s what Terry Turner reminds me of.
Walter Mitty was a Casper Milquetoast type of fellow who was henpecked by his wife and rather quiet and nondescript. But in his mind, he was superman, almost like 007. He had the most amazing imagination and would go on daydreaming adventures that boggled the mind.
One of the reasons why I say that is…Truth Laid Bear has this guy’s blog labelled as a flippery fish click here. And 9 incoming links–and MY BLOG IS ONE OF THEM! YIKES!!!! Unique visitors 9??? Contrast that knowledge with his story about 20,000 page views and you see what I’m talking about.
Now excuse me for poking a little fun here, it’s just my way of pointing out this man’s amazing hubris. Superhawk at Rightwing Nuthouse recently brought some facts to my attention about the illustrious career of the modest and shy Terry Turner of “Watching Washington”.
It turns out, after he bragged that he was on television as a “reporter”, as follows:
Ah, yes. I worked for CONUS Communications, a subsidary of Hubbard Broadcasting. We were the company that invented the satellite truck and pioneered SNG. Hubbard also laid the groundwork for a major part of DirectTV – the home satellite system. Our unofficial motto was “The Most Famous Name In Television You Never Heard Of.†Every one in commercial TV is familiar with CONUS, though the general public never heard of us. The division was phased out after 9/11 when advertising revenue dried up.
He was, as it turns out, a shill for a subscription service that sold Washington stories to small and medium market TV stations.
You can see these story slugs right here.
These are Superhawk’s words:
Looks like most of the stories were less than 1 minute 30 seconds. I have no doubt in his ego soaked mind he thinks he did crap like he says. But looking at the EVIDENCE, I’d have to say he was little more than a pretty face…a talking head who, for a minute and a half a couple of times a week, would regurgitate news stories from other sources.
Awards? Who knows. They give awards out these days for showing up sober. Maybe he got one of those.
John Kerry got purple hearts for scratches and a bandaid, so you tell me what any of this means.
Realistically, if you put all of his ridiculous claims together, you get nothing more than a blowhard who gets off on tooting his own horn.
This is a guy who think he’s in the big time, lol…but what is it really? Pathetic.
I told him he looked like Glenn Campbell, and he said he LIKED Glenn Campbell. Well here’s a more recent photo of Glenn Campbell.

BTW, we at the Wide Awakes site have been blessed by the presence of a man who actually is a writer, Superhawk. (not someone like Terry Turner who just claims to be) He lived and worked in Washington D.C. for 7 years back in to go-go 80’s. During that time, he was employed mostly as a writer for various conservative political action groups. Writing about the personalities as well as the grips and handholds that comprise what’s now become the mud wrestling of American politics is endlessly fascinating to him. And continues to be!!!
on 1/21 Terry Turner left a comment here at the Wide Awakes Blog this was before he applied to get into the forum!!!!
I sent him an email on the 22nd asking what his intentions were and he didn’t respond to me until I banned him from the forum which was on or around January 25. All the while, he was leaving comments on our blog. It seemed to me at the time that he understood the difference between our blog and our discussion forum.
On January 22, I sent Terry Turner this email:
Hello,
We’re inquiring about your interest in the Wide Awakes Forum.
We are a new group and we’re still getting organized.
We are conservatives and I’m not certain that you’d fit in with what we’re trying to accomplish. Looks to me as though you’re a GOP/Bush detractor. We’re not looking for members of the opposition ideology.
Please reply with a little blurb about yourself and why you think you should be a member of the Wide Awakes. We’ve all looked at your site and there are at least 6 members who think your membership should be denied on our discussion forum.
In the beginning, all new members will be considered “pledges” while we’re sizing them up.
Cao
He didn’t respond to me, so I banned him from the discussion forum. So then on January 25, after I banned him, he finally responded to my email of January 22. It looked to me as though getting banned was the entire reason for the response.
I seek only to post comments to your forum.
Debate is the cornerstone of the republic. To stiffle debate from an opposing viewpoint is to weaken your own position. To silence opposition comments is to debate only strawmen — and that dilutes anything you might say, defeating any purpose you might have.
Only by challenging debate, do you have a forum. Without opposing viewpoints, you have only a mob.
Terry Turner
You see how he doesn’t differentiate between our blog and the discussion forum? Now he’s twisted it around and said that he thought he had to “register” on the blog. Sorry, I don’t swallow it.
So then I replied with this:
“Debate” may be the cornerstone of this republic, but “debate” is not the purpose of the Wide Awakes forum. Our statement of purpose is very clear and is published on the front of the Wide Awakes site.
Good day.
He was really mad about that response, so he sent the email to me that I quote in the beginning of all of this…but remember, all the while this was happening he was posting comments on the blog!!!!
Always a pleasure to talk to a right winger whose views border on facist beliefs is silencing debate.
I guess I’m stuck with the 20,000 page views per day on my site to get my word out. And by the way, I allow debate on my site — even from the extreme right. At least one of us believes in American ideals.
I will continue to view the Wide Awakes and still offer my point of view to keep yours sharp and accurate in your cause.
Good day to you as well.
In the meantime, during the period of January 21 to date, he has been leaving comments on the Wide Awakes site. He wasn’t confused, he’s just trying to confuse us as to what the real issue is (at least as far as I can tell).
Here are links to his comments on the Wide Awakes site made during that period:
on 1/21 he left a comment here this was before he applied to get into the forum!!!!

on 1/25 he left a comment here
he left a comment here on 1/26 at 1:54 pm
On 1/26 he left a comment here
he left a comment here at 8:56 am on 1/27 (I can’t find the link to this but he posted)
he left a comment here on 1/27 at 9:02 am
he left a comment here at 2:31 pm on 1/27
These are the comments I’ve been able to find, and frankly, the fact that he posted a comment on January 21 kind of tells it all to me. Unless he posted it, didn’t see it right away and got pissed and stomped off to troll on other websites. Which could be the case since he’s in such a hurry all the time.
But I’m about done with this guy –I know we’re supposed to accept dissenting opinions and views, but exactly how much of this crap can a person take? Beth thinks we should out-and-out ban the guy. He’s really more trouble than he’s worth.
As an reporter, I won more than 15 awards (including an Emmy). Honored by the AP, SDX, and invited to the Poynter Institute – not that that means much to a novice.
An reporter? Aren’t people who are reporters supposed to know proper grammar? Notice how he paints himself to be so accomplished. Awwww. He got some iddy biddy awards, mommy, look at me! Look at me!
As an investigative reporter, I exposed organized crime links that bankrupted a local truck line, illegal drug manufacturing, launched a series that changed state law making that drug manufacture more difficutl, and my biggest coup – was the first reporter in the US to report that the US was launching “Operation Desert Shield.â€
Difficutl? Not sure I’ve ever seen that word before. Investigative reporter? You’d think you were on 60 minutes or something. I’m not sure how much investigating you can do in a minute and half….
During my time in Washington, I followed money trails of political campaigns, exposed waste, fraud, and abuse in government. This was a franchise called “Watching Washington†that had roughly four times as many regular viewers as Bill O’Reilly currently has.
This is all in the past, buddy, what are you now? It seems as though you’re a has been who’s reaching back in time for the good old days.
Outside of journalism, I have written for both Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign and Donald Rumsfeld’s as SecDef, managed a Congressional race in the the number one targeted district in 1996, and served as an informal advisor to Governor Frank White – one of only two men to ever defeat Bill Clinton in an election.
Bill Clinton is history…and has his own LIEbrary. Ask me if I care. Are you inferring that you were reponsible for the success because you were that guy’s “advisor”, or were you “advising” him as in being a bathroom attendant and handing him a towel?
And to the fellow who says I only post headlines – then how does that make my site “watching out for Democrats?â€
Click here for the media research center, tracking liberal bias in the media since 1987 In case you haven’t noticed, the media is pretty much reporting on behalf of the party of the proletariat these days. If you’re just regurgitating that pablum then you’re reporting on their behalf. It’s a simple conclusion, brain trust.
Either I’m only posting headlines – or I’m commenting. Part of the power of blogging – as Matt Drudge has pointed out – is the selection of headlines a person posts. That amounts to commentary – in addition to the snide remarks I put in MY headlines and posts.
I could give to squats about it, from what I’ve seen of your commentaries. You post more about yourself and the validity of your comments than you do comments. Why don’t you dazzle us with your brilliant wit and fantastic writing instead of trying to convince us what a super duper famous and renowned journalist you are?
As for Cao and her sudden brush off when I fire back – if I don’t matter, why do I rate a special post on your site?
These posts quickly get buried in the archives, as I post usually several in one day. Don’t overestimate your importance in my world, buddy. I may have just left the post in “general” so you can’t even search for it in categories, although I think I might have filed it in ‘blogosphere’. I probably should just delete it.
And if I was banned from “Wide Awakes,†why do my comments still appear there?
You are so daft it’s practically unbelievable. The Wide Awakes blog is a blog. The discussion forum is a forum. You don’t understand the difference???? Even NOW?
And surprising that no one mentions the 8,200 inbound links from Yahoo! either.
Well if you can explain to me what that means rather than throw the number out there like it’s important, then maybe I’ll care. I have no idea what inbound links from Yahoo means. You are a FLIPPERY FISH in the TLB Ecosystem. Inbound links: 9! No sitemeter visible and talking about 20,000 page views rather than hits (presumably to pump up the numbers). I think most of us talk about hits or unique visitors. We can all pump up our numbers to make them look good, but I have no interest in doing so. I am who I am and I don’t fill the room up with hot air. I’d appreciate it if you’d stay out of my space with yours.
That’s all, folks.

Well said Cao, maybe after that dressing down Terry will finally get a clue. BTW Terry, inbound links don’t mean **** when they come from you spamming sites with your comments. Perhaps you could find an outlet for your ranting somewhere that will appreciate your self-serving boasts, hmmm like Move On or Mikey Mooron’s site. Good riddance.
The Mad Tech
Well it’s been exposed…those 8200 yahoo links. Now we know what he’s talking about. He must really get around the blogosphere, but he’s got to know there’s a different way to get the message out there about his blog. There’s blog clicker, blogazoo, blog explosion, and more.
Thanks for the post, Cao.
Your ignorance of the television industry is a hoot! (Tell you friend that 1:30 is standard length for a TV report — actually pretty long in most markets these days).
Your inability to understand the simple “I only want to comment” line is precious — is English your second or third language? And your stalker like obsession with me/Glen Campbell is downright sweet.
BTW, CONUS was not a “subscription” service. It was a news cooperative, TV’s version of the Associated Press. It allowed the roughly 100 member stations to share stories. We also provided a Washington Bureau with offices in the Capitol and White House. These produced independent stories, covered major hearings, daily White House Press Briefings, State and Defense Briefings, and the like. We were also part of the Independent Pool at the White House and provided feeds from State, Capitol Hill, the Pentagon, and the White House to FOX, ABC, CBS and other networks and news services.
My comments about my career and inbound links were not bragging — they were in direct response to people who questioned my credibility.
You made this a debate over me “bragging” not me. Now either live with your insecurities and inadequacies or shut up about me defending myself.
Get a clue.
Learn to read.
Quit showing your absolute ignorance of the television industry (you believe MRC has any credibility?).
And keep posting about me. In your simple mind, you’re feeding my ego!
Jeez you’d think you were the equivalent to Dan Rather or something. Your stretching the importance of a minute and a half is what’s humorous. I suppose all men do that in terms of performance at one time or another, right?
Thanks for the compliments. Coming from you they’re a real badge of honor. I’m ignorant, you’re a braggart, whatever.
You think calling me ignorant somehow turns the facts invisible? You blew up your blog numbers from 9 links at TTLB to 20,000 incoming from you spamming comments all over the internet.
You should look in the mirror and really think about what you’re saying. When you spread **** like that around, what makes you think anybody is going to take a single thing you say seriously?
Your most serious mistake is in the thinking that everyone else is stupid but you and you can get away with this without people holding you accountable.
“Your stretching the importance of a minute and a half is what’s humorous. I suppose all men do that in terms of performance at one time or another, right?”
MEOW!!!!!
Remind me not to get on your bad side.
My defenses and sarcasm were sharpened and heightened because of Whynot and a few others last night. Sorry. Although you gotta admit…for some men there is some truth in that statement, lol…I can recall the locker room rumors that used to float around school…the guys would make themselves out to be studly and ruin a girl’s reputation when many times they never even went out.
lol I had a feeling that mugshot pic was coming out soon.
I was a reporter. Reporters to a minute and a half story. Never blew up the significance. It was a franchise. Got lots of extra attention at stations because of that.
And I never mentioned TTLB. Again, check wholinkstome. It shows much higher numbers — especially since the USA Today mention.
Sorry, just had a fun life.
I just couldn’t help myself, Tomslick,
Yeah, some fun life–Just like Walter Mitty.
I don’t think much of linkstome. I have it too, btw. It doesn’t always show everthing and it’s a relatively unreliable service -at least that’s what I’ve been able to ascertain.
You know, Terry, I mentioned TTLB because we all use it and it’s a frame of reference we’re all familiar with. You don’t know too much about the blogosphere, it seems like, you’re too busy reliving your past. You should really take a self-assessment, IMO. Blithering bafoons don’t get much attention and they get called on the carpet for things they say that are irresponsible.
Take a look at what’s happening to CNN’s Eason Jordan right now. The brouhaha started in the blogosphere.
If you need traffic, you’re going about it in the wrong way, IMO. And you’re certainly making no friends here.
Your behavior is that of a troll. I’ve hit my personal limit with you. The Wide Awakes are determining what we’re going to do about you over there, but over here, I’m on the verge of banning you from the site and deleting every post that has your name on it.
It’s called PEST CONTROL.
“maybe after that dressing down Terry will finally get a clue.”
Some people are just born slow learners.
Not Tex. Smart boy. Known him for years.
