“Person of interest” named in Washington cop killings

The sheriff’s office said in a news release that Maurice Clemmons is their ‘person of interest’ in this case. Clemmons has an extensive violent criminal history in Arkansas, including aggravated robbery and theft. He was recently arrested and charged in Pierce County, Washington for third-degree assault on a police officer, and second-degree rape of a child. This wouldn’t have happened if Mike Huckabee had not granted him clemency from his 35-year jail sentence in Arkansas in the year 2000.

Update: Clemmons was shot and killed by a lone police officer who repeatedly told him to “stop”-in the early morning hours of December 1, 2009.

Four police officers were ambushed by a shooter at a local coffee shop near McChord Air Force Base in Washington. It was the beginning of their shift, and the squad was sitting together at a table, working on their laptops when the shooter burst in and fired. One of the officers struggled out the door and shot back at the fleeing attacker..before he died. The perp is still at large.

Authorities are offering a $10,000 $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person involved in this morning’s fatal shooting, described as a black man who is between 5-feet-7-inches and 5-feet-10-inches tall, and wearing a black coat and blue jeans in the Lakewood, Wash. area.
