I was thinking when reading my previous post on this that I haven’t talked about what it is this effort is accomplishing. Please read about what the money we raise is going to do to enhance the recovery of our war wounded. Valour IT’s efforts have expanded since I first began supporting what they were doing. In the beginning, it was voice activated laptops.

Now, technology has advanced to offer our wounded warriors Wii Video Game Systems. These are Whole-body game systems that benefit them immensely by increasing motivation and in turn, speeding up the recovery process. These systems are used with the help of physical therapists in therapy sessions (donated only to medical facilities).

And there is also Personal GPS for our guys. These are a little different than the GPS you would have in your car, but using the same technology. Handheld GPS devices build self-confidence and independence by compensating our wounded for short-term memory loss and organizational challenges related to severe TBI and severe PTSD.

Originally Valour-IT provided the voice-controlled software that accompanies the laptops, but now works closely with the Department of Defense Computer/electronic Accommodations Program (CAP): CAP supplies the adaptive software and Valour-IT provides the laptop. In addition, DoD caseworkers serve as Valour-IT’s “eyes and ears” at several medical centers, identifying patients in need of laptops and other technological support for their recovery. Wounded military personnel can also directly request a laptop through the sign-up form or through the Valour-IT/Soldiers’ Angels representatives at the following medical centers, and other veterans health care facilities across the country:

* Balboa Naval Hospital

* Brooke Army Medical Center

* Madigan Regional Medical Center

* National Naval Medical Center (Bethesda Naval Hospital)

* Naval Hospital, Camp Pendleton

* Robert E. Bush Naval Hospital (29 Palms)

* Walter Reed Army Medical Center

And Soldiers Angels does much more than offer technology assistance through the Valour IT program…

On October 1, 2009, President Obama met with Gen. Stanley McChrystal onboard Air Force One where Gen. McChrystal formally requested 40,000 new troops sent to Afghanistan, just one day before his trip to Copenhagen to bid for the 2012 Olympics.

On October 1, 2009, Army Spc. Paul E. Andersen, Army Sgt. Roberto D. Sanchez, and Army Spc. Russell S. Hercules Jr died from wounds suffered in combat.

On October 2, 2009 President Obama traveled to Copenhagen and lost in the opening bid for the Olympics.

On October 2, 2009, Army Capt. Benjamin A. Sklaver, Army Pfc. Alan H. Newton Jr, Army Sgt. Ryan C. Adams, Army Pfc. Brandon A. Owens, and Army Sgt. Aaron M. Smith died of wounds suffered in combat.

On October 3, 2009 the Obama’s celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary at the Blue Duck restaurant ( “…wholesome American fare prepared through simple, time-honored cooking methods such as roasting, braising, preserving and smoking. This contemporary neighborhood tavern evokes the warmth and convivial setting of a residential kitchen and gathering place.”)

While on October 3, 2009, Army Staff Sgt. Thomas D. Rabjohn, Army Sgt. Justin T. Gallegos, Army Spc. Christopher T. Griffin, Army Sgt. Joshua M. Hardt, Army Sgt. Joshua J. Kirk, Army Spc. Stephan L. Mace, Army Staff Sgt. Vernon W. Martin, Army Sgt. Michael P. Scusa and Army Pfc. Kevin C. Thomson, died from wounds suffered in combat.
