The American Energy Revolt: Day 3

Filed under: Demonrats , Environmentalism , GOP And RINOs @ 5:05 pm

Get the word out about the defiance of Speaker Pelosi and the Democrat Majority to hold an “open, full and fair debate” about American energy.

“Republicans Again Take Protest to House Floor, Without Democrats”
- Associated Press, Aug. 4, 2008

It’s Day 3 of the American Energy Revolt, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi is digging in her heels!
This past Sunday, on ABC’s This Week, George Stephanopoulos pointed out to Speaker Pelosi that when Democrats took the Majority in Congress, she promised “open, full and fair debate.”

Stephanopoulos: “If [Republicans] want to offer a drilling proposal, why can’t they have a vote?”

Pelosi: “They, they, they, they’ll have to use their imaginations as to how they can get a vote.”

Translation: NO VOTE TO INCREASE AMERICAN OIL

republicans plan on more energy talk on Monday

I’m still laughing about Obama saying that we should pump up our tires. Obama doesn’t have a lot going on in the brain department, and neither do his followers. I was called a blasphemer today…because I don’t think very highly of Barack Obama. I find that a compliment considering the source.

I’ve been mad about the repugnitards’ giving in to environmentalism so I’m rather happy that this is going on. If they can show some backbone, and this isn’t a ruse to prove they have one; I’ll be looking at them differently.

Until then, I’ll watch the show.

So if I understand this correctly, people are driving around on flat tires?

Twitter and the House debacle with no lights

Filed under: Demonrats , Environmentalism , GOP And RINOs @ 6:29 am

The republicans who took the floor to debate the energy crisis after the democrats closed it up- also took to twitter to get the word out about the historic moments that were blacked out in the media. There was a lot of excitement over what was happening; that is apparent.

Hoekstra and Culberson were twittering the events as they were unfolding.

I’d like to know the names of the republicans who hung in there. They deserve our thanks.

Turning the lights off. C’mon.

House Adjourns, But Republicans Linger to Bash Democrats on Energy

Pelosi didn’t seem inclined to do anything to bring the GOP’s off-the-books filibuster to an end.

But her staff did try to minimize the amount of attention the rump filibuster was getting. They ordered the staff of the press gallery to lock the doors to the balcony overlooking the chamber, as is the usual practice when the House is not in session.

So, GOP members started a shuttle system, taking turns moving from floor to gallery to join reporters as they watched the proceedings.

Around 12:30 p.m., the TV lights in the chamber were turned off, as Chief Deputy Minority Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va., was speaking.

Cantor didn’t miss a beat, declaring, “Turn off the lights, turn off the mikes, kick out the press because they [the Democrats] don’t want to deal with this important issue.”

The EPA’s nanomanagement

As per Moonbattery, here, from the Wallstreet Journal, the Gorical made an amazing statement - that “our very way of life” is in danger if we don’t end the “carbon age” within the next 10 years. Now think about that one. CO2 is a byproduct of rotting vegetation; and it is not the precursor to warming, it FOLLOWS warming. In addition to the simple fact that all mammals exhale CO2, and plants eat it up - there is a beautiful symbiotic relationship in the environment between animal living things and vegetable living things; for plants, CO2 makes them grow, and it’s used in agriculture to increase crop yields.

Yet, the Supreme Court ruled that greenhouse gases - like water vapor - air ‘air pollutants’ and can be regulated. And so the EPA has decided it wants to leverage that.

In a huge document released last Friday, the EPA lays out the thousands of carbon controls with which they’d like to shackle the whole economy. Central planning is too artful a term for the EPA’s nanomanagement.

Egad. Read the rest at the Wall Street Journal.

Alarmists use weather to promote global warming hoax

Excerpt:

Claims that recent severe weather and flooding in the US are proof of human CO2 impacts on global climate are scientific nonsense. They are part of a pattern of keeping weather and climate issues in the public mind.

elephant in a bubble is back on

Filed under: Environmentalism @ 5:19 am

In a secret undisclosed location, the bubble artist was scheduled to perform the feat.

Bubble artist Fan Yang’s earlier plan to perform the world-record-setting feat at the Santa Ana Discovery Science Center’s Bubblefest fell apart when the science institution came under fire from animal-rights groups for using a critically endangered species in a “trivial and sensationalist manner.”

I can’t imagine that the elephant would be harmed by such a thing.

Yang said he plans to embark on the stunt at a secret location to prevent any intrusion from disapproving animal-rights activists.

“We canceled before because we had a concern that the animal extremists would jeopardize our event, and for the public safety,” said Yang, who tours his Mega-Bubble spectacles around the world as well as performing regularly in New York and Las Vegas.

Yang said along with wrapping bubbles around people of all ages, he has previously put an elephant in a bubble in India.

His observation: “The elephants love the bubbles just like children do. They understand a lot of things.”

However, some animal-rights advocates who initially took issue with the Discovery Science Center for endorsing a stunt with a wild animal, said they were just as disturbed by Yang’s independent elephant venture.

Animal rights activists claim animal exploitation starts with a ‘mindset’, that ‘they’re here to use in any way we want’.

“If you’re going to look at an endangered elephant as just a stage prop and something that’s just here for our amusement, how are you going to have any respect for them as a species?”

Sometimes I think it’s valuable to have a closer look at these animals; it gives us a greater appreciation for their sensitivity and intelligence.

Kari Johnson and her husband have spent 30 years raising and training Tai, the 39-year-old female Asian elephant scheduled to appear in the event.

She said it’s not the first time they and their show elephants have stirred controversy.

Tai has performed stunts in several movies, including “Operation: Dumbo Drop,” the 1995 Disney production that features an elephant parachuting out of a cargo plane.

“We didn’t think it was fair that a group of animal-rights extremists were using this to push their agenda of taking elephants out of human care,” Johnson said. “Nothing about putting Tai in the bubble would cause her any harm. The elephants like the bubbles, especially the babies they touch and walk after them.”

This video shows an elephant painting a self-portrait. It appears as though it’s having a good time. The crowd certainly expresses awe and appreciation.

dolphin mid air collision leaves one dead

(CNN) — A 30-year-old dolphin at Sea World has died after colliding with another dolphin while performing aerial tricks, the Orlando, Florida, amusement park said Monday.

Naturally, environmentalists and animal rights activists blame the accident on the dolphins’ captivity.

global warming myth implodes

VANISHING SUNSPOTS PRELUDE TO GLOBAL COOLING?
Sunspots have all but vanished, and activity is suspiciously quiet. The last time this happened was 400 years ago — and it signaled a solar event known as a “Maunder Minimum,” along with the start of what we now call the “Little Ice Age.

How are the moonbats going to keep the warming myth in our faces when faced with more and more evidence that it’s a complete sham?

MEDIA RELEASE
Hundreds Sign Climate Realist Declaration
– “Global Warming’ is not a Global Crisis”
International Climate Science Coalition releases signatories to the Manhattan Declaration on Climate Change

Watch Declaration endorser Professor Bob Carter of James Cook University in Australia explain today’s situation with respect to climate change science and policy.

to 10 minute April 22nd interview with ICSC Executive Director Tom Harris on The Stafford Show on AM 640 Toronto Radio (two minutes download time).

Read CNW newswire version of this release (distributed in Australia, New Zeland, Europe and North America).

Ottawa, Canada, April 22, 2008 – The International Climate Science Coalition (ICSC) today released the names of over 500 endorsers of the Manhattan Declaration on Climate Change that calls on world leaders to “reject the views expressed by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as well as popular, but misguided works such as “An Inconvenient Truth”.” All taxes, regulations, and other interventions intended to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) should “be abandoned forthwith”, declaration signatories conclude.

Included in the endorser list are world leading climate scientists, economists, policymakers, engineers, business leaders, medical doctors, as well as other professionals and concerned citizens from two dozen countries. The complete declaration text, endorser lists and international media contacts for expert commentary, may be viewed at here.

Perhaps most significant among the declaration’s assertions:

  1. “there is no convincing evidence that CO2 emissions from modern industrial activity have in the past, are now, or will in the future cause catastrophic climate change.”
  2. “attempts by governments to legislate costly regulations on industry and individual citizens to encourage CO2 reduction will slow development while having no appreciable impact on the future trajectory of global climate change. Such policies will markedly diminish future prosperity and so reduce the ability of societies to adapt to inevitable climate change, thereby increasing, not decreasing human suffering.”

“Just as the Manhattan Project was key to finally ending the Second World War, the Manhattan Declaration on Climate Change may one day be regarded as a critical catalyst that helped end today’s climate hysteria,” said ICSC Science Advisory Board member, Professor Bob Carter of James Cook University in Australia. “Protecting the natural world is crucially important and so environmental policy must be based on our best understanding of science and technology coupled with a realistic appreciation of the relevant economics and policy options. This is not happening in the climate debate.”

ICSC Chair, Professor Tim Patterson of Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada concludes, “Instead of wasting billions restricting emissions of CO2, a vitally important gas on which all life depends, governments must concentrate on solving known environmental problems over which we have influence - air, land and water pollution being obvious examples.“

The ICSC is an association of scientists, economists and energy and policy experts (advisors listed here) working to promote better public understanding of climate change. ICSC provides an analysis of climate science and policy issues which, being independent of lobby groups and vested political interests, is an alternative to advice from the IPCC. ICSC thereby fosters rational, evidence-based, open discussion about all climate, and climate-related, issues.

Greenpeace activist dressed up in orangutan suits protesting soap

Greenpeace Kooks protest soap (Van Helsing at Moonbattery dot com)

Fox News:

Approximately 40 of the ape-like protesters invaded the Unilever factory near Liverpool and the company’s headquarters in London Sunday, disrupting operations for the soapmaker and overrunning production lines, the Daily Mail reported.

The environmental advocacy group said they’re doing their part to protect the endangered orangutans.

“By doing nothing to stop its suppliers destroying rainforests and peatlands to grow palm oil, Unilever is helping to kill off the last remaining orangutans on the planet and massively speeding up climate change,” Greenpeace Executive director John Sauven told the Daily Mail.

Why I left Greenpeace-by Patrick Moore

[…] after six years as one of five directors of Greenpeace International, I observed that none of my fellow directors had any formal science education. They were either political activists or environmental entrepreneurs. Ultimately, a trend toward abandoning scientific objectivity in favor of political agendas forced me to leave Greenpeace in 1986.

The breaking point was a Greenpeace decision to support a world-wide ban on chlorine. Science shows that adding chlorine to drinking water was the biggest advance in the history of public health, virtually eradicating water-borne diseases such as cholera. And the majority of our pharmaceuticals are based on chlorine chemistry. Simply put, chlorine is essential for our health.

It is not onlly the biggest advance in the history of public health, it’s part of the periodic table of basic elements. Manipulating “science” for politics has been a part of the Lysenkoists’ tactics for a very long time.

My former colleagues ignored science and supported the ban, forcing my departure. Despite science concluding no known health risks – and ample benefits – from chlorine in drinking water, Greenpeace and other environmental groups have opposed its use for more than 20 years.

a single party with two different names

Filed under: Environmentalism , GOP And RINOs @ 5:45 am

Found this at Van Helsing’s
….and it is as I’ve been complaining about…there is no substantive difference now between the Republicans and the Democrats and our election is merely political theater for us to place a George Soros lacky into the Presidential office so that we can institute more big government, as is proposed here by Newt Gingrich and Nancy Pelosi.

Van Helsing:

The cowardly and perfidious willingness of Republicans like Gingrich and McMaverick to play along with this farce is pushing us ever closer toward the European system of a single party with two different names, whereby no matter how an election turns out, the government wins, and the public loses.

Amen.

As has been documented elsewhere, we are in the middle of a cold snap - not a warming period, but fluctuations in temperature have happened since the beginning of time, and will continue to do so. Climate is controlled naturally without any help from us - to imagine that we can have any impact on it whatsoever is delusional thinking.

4/10/2008

the earth is getting cooler

The earth is cooling; climate scientists have known it for at least the past 7 years.

More here.

From a commenter at Error Theory:

It has been over nine years now and atmospheric carbon dioxide level has continued to increase but temperature has gone down. Apparently no one did any real research before or they would have discovered that 440 mya the planet plunged into the Andean-Saharan ice age when atmospheric carbon dioxide was over ten times the present level.

It’s no wonder moonbats are blaming insanity on global warming:

“Psychosocial illnesses are a part of the various health issues associated with climate change,” Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Deputy Regional Director, WHO, said.

The World Health Organization, is a tentacle of the UN, one of the world’s leading promoters of the global warming myth. First, it should come as little surprise that the eco religionists would have mental problems, as it requires some serious mental acrobatics to buy into it. Some are so determined to prop this myth, they don’t care about the facts. My complaints about global warming are 1) the fact that CO2 appears in the atmosphere AFTER warming, not before, so in a logical world of reason, it couldn’t possibly be the cause of warming, anyway, and 2) that carbon dioxide is a naturally produced fertilizer that is used in agriculture for increased crop yields. Very little of man’s contribution goes into the atmosphere, so the call to restrict fossil fuel production is a load of hogwash based on modern day mythology rather than science. Sounding the alarm about a nonexistent threat in order to promote more governmental restrictions is simply in sane.

Van Helsing:

Considering that it hasn’t gotten any warmer since 1998, moonbats may soon have to confess that there unfortunately is no global warming, manmade or otherwise. But they’ll have a ready excuse for years of telling lies about the weather: global warming baked their brains, causing them to have delusions that there is such a thing as global warming.

But as many have surmised already, Global warming alarmists knew cooling was coming, were hoping to secure restrictions on economic activity first.

Let’s hope that common sense prevails, and soon.

NASA adds that the oceans have also cooled for the past few years.

Judge rejects Navy request for sonar training exemption

Here’s an update to the Navy and sonar training fiasco.

A federal judge in Los Angeles on Monday rejected the Bush administration’s attempt to exempt Navy sonar training from key environmental laws, saying that there’s no real emergency to justify overruling court-ordered protections for whales and dolphins.

This is disaster in the making.

The January order requires the Navy to shut down sonar when whales or other marine mammals are within 2,200 yard of a vessel and forbids the use of submarine-detecting sonar in areas where whales are abundant.

The Navy maintains that the lives of its sailors depend on being properly trained to detect vessels operated by China, Iran, North Korea and other potentially hostile nations.
